Day 16: There go the girls

It has come to our attention that the three housemates to leave the Celebrity Big Brother House so far have all been female; Jasmine, Cheryl and Rhian to be precise. Following last night's face-to-face nominations, another three women – Danica, Coleen and Samantha - are up for eviction; two of them will leave during Friday's double eviction, meaning we'll be five gals down. Only Julie and one other rep from the fairer sex will be left to mingle. Meanwhile, the kings of the manor remain the same six-some they have been since Day 1.

What is going on?

Well... no one can leave the House without being nominated first by their housemates. Let us therefore look to the relationship dynamics for clues about why it's the female contingent is shrinking.

Undoubtedly, the biggest negative splash has been made by the glamour girls. Two men fell for them, two prior boyfriends were revealed yet because neither Danica nor Rhian ran screaming from the attention lavished on them by The Situation and Ashley, the moral judgement brigade reacted. Rhian went up for eviction #1, Danica for #2, then both for #3 and now Danica is up again for #4. If there's a message here, it's ' stay away from men who fancy you, attached women!'

Of course, if we were to suggest that there was any jealousy behind people's motives, we're sure it would be quite improper. Naturally, everyone is just very concerned –ethically - about those poor boys, inside and outside of the House. No one looks at two young, attractive girls at the prime of their physical power and thinks, 'if only'. We're all above that, right?

Wrong. Everyone wants to be found attractive. Everyone wants to continue forming new and interesting relationships with those of the opposite sex regardless of their relationship status. Why should exciting bonding stop?  It shouldn't and if it does it's hard to watch other people enjoy this privilege.  Mature women, Julie and Sam have not been shy about nominating Danica because of the drama that has surrounded her in the House. Neither nominated The Situation this week despite the fact that everyone knows it takes two to tango.

Another subtle force that has disfavoured the House femmes is the celeb hierarchy that has quietly formed. From the beginning, Harvey has talked about the difference between him and Danica who – "no offence darling, I don't know what you do." Jasmine, the first to leave, is best known for her modelling and personality, and Sam would not be on our radar if it wasn't for her controversy-courting article-based claims to beauty.

Yet, this logic makes no impact on the unpopularity of Coleen – a national treasure - and Cheryl – a respected actress in the mould of Julie who, it seems, has been promoted to have held onto the goddess mantle even since the conclusion of the task. Once again we have to ask, what is going on here? The era of woman hating has passed hasn't it? Someone get Germaine Greer on to the Bit on the Side panel to sort this out once and for all
