Celebrity Big Brother 2013: A series round-up
After 23 days without paps popping in their faces or nervous butlers apologising profusely for spilling a droplet of coffee, it's almost all over for our six finalists. But close your eyes, cast your mind back nearly four weeks to when it all began. Roll VT... (by which we mean keep on reading).
It all started, conveniently enough, on Day 1. The crowds arrived in droves, it was still summertime so it was probably blisteringly hot, and along came three angels in the form of Louie, Lauren and Sophie who were welcomed to the House then immediately relocated to the Cult Temple next door. From there they would examine their new Housemates like boffins peering into microscopes and sipping champagne. In full make up.
And in they flooded â Bruce and Vicky, Courtney, Abz from 5ive, Danielle from Ireland, the artist formerly known as Screech (Dustin), Geordie Charlotte, The Only Way is Mario, Carol from Loose Women and do Ron Ron Ron Atkin-son. It was thusly decreed that Bruce and Vicky would then spend the first night asleep in the garden for being far too famous for everyone's liking.
Day 2 proved to be a wondrous learning curve for the American bombshell Courtney who found out what Weetabix were after initially assuming they were bricks or tiny little hay bales. And before long the revelations were flying thick and fast like a conveyor belt gone berserk as Louie, Sophie and Lauren popped into the House like three grinning lunatics with unbelievably good teeth. The trio came bearing gifts and with a Judas kiss and a bottle of bubbly Louie sealed Ron's fate as nominee number one.
Finally all together, our housemates bonded further on Day 3, with all eyes on Mario and Carol in particular. We thought they might become a 'thing'. They didn't, but some other stuff DID happen â we heard some 'interesting stories' , Danielle's fate was sealed after the Cult of Celebrity made another shortlist, and Charlotte revealed her musical talent. Oh Day 3, we miss you already.
But the fourth day rolled around declaring itself as Day 4, and it will forever be remembered as the day Mario got his bum out to showcase his talent. It was also the day that the Cult of Celebrity demasked themselves and declared their devious deeds with cackling laughs and the manic twisting of moustaches, leaving everyone in a state of shock.
Thankfully the shock was short lived and by Day 5 the Housemates were merrily chowing down on chicken's feet, pig's tongues and dog food canapÃĐs like nothing had ever happened.
On Day 6 Lauren channelled her inner hairdresser by treating Vicky to a hot new high street look going by the working title of "The Scarecrow", and then Day 7 saw Danielle cast back to the Emerald Isle with her Housemate status revoked. The survivors of the first eviction (Ron and Vicky) celebrated by putting Louie up for the chop.
Day 7 morphed seamlessly into Day 8 with the general passing of time, and Day 8 became important for many reasons, but mainly because it happened to coincide with Courtney's 19th birthday. She celebrated as all 19-year-old girls tend to these days â with a slumber party that ends with Screech from Saved By The Bell holding your hair while you barf in a bin.
On Day 9 Ron duly left the house, the second to be evicted, calling time on his budding bromance with Bruce. Bruce wept like a drain that night. But thankfully the rain cloud above his head and in his eyes had evaporated in time for a dance battle on Day 10, where he produced some languid dance moves of genuine tenderness. We like to think he dedicated that dance to his old buddy Ron.
The week drew to a thrilling climax with a Day 11 nomination twist so twisted that it would short circuit your brain to think about it too much. The nominated Housemates were played clips of the people nominating them, and the air turned icier than a metaphor about things getting really cold all of a sudden. Everyone was freaking out. Particularly Sophie who didn't take it very well at all â was her number up? As it turns out, not yet, no.
Now at the halfway stage, the celebrities had morphed into a single entity, a strong unit, a family. So it came as a humungous blow to find three in their ranks kidnapped by Mr Big â Carol, Lauren and Mario. On the plus side Mr Big turned out to be Mr Softie and the three hostages were treated superbly.
Later on Day 12, Courtney battled her inner fashion icon and wore a boiler suit in return for a romantic visit from her husband, who is a terrifically famous actor.
Day 13 thundered onto the scene promising to be an absolute whopper, and no one was let down. First Abz answered a few million squealing girls' prayers by singing a famous 5ive song five times in a row â which mathematicians will tell you equals 25 somehow. Then Carol was fake-evicted and hurled into a lap of luxury to have a really lovely time.
As Day 14 began Carol sharpened her focus on her bereaved Housemates from the comfort of a deluxe bunker, and later that evening when Sophie became the third evictee, in strode Carol bold as brass. The returned. Minds were both boggled and blown, but there wasn't time for too much reflection with awkward face-to-face noms on the menu.
The next two days, known in the trade as Day 15 and Day 16, proved a marvellous feast of acting as first Louie won an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role as 'man having meltdown', and then Dustin stole the show playing a funny mirror version of Mario inThe Only Way is Geordie. Less prized was his later turn as the fourth evictee. Bolshy Bruce returned to the Rovers (not officially this just a literary vehicle) via the front door.
When Vicky emerged from her bed in full eviction night regalia it was immediately obvious that Day 17 wasn't planning on being bog standard CBB fare, and so it turned out with a visit from Vanessa Feltz and a moment of genuine magic when Abz turned an apple into an apple that looked slightly like a swan. He raps, he dances, he sings, he makes fruit animals. That makes Abz the planet's leading quadruple-threat.
Day 18 formed a wince on Housemate's mouths following a barny between Vicky and Charlotte that slowly spiralled after the ever-popular letter shredding task. And Day 19proved to be the day after the barney before when Rylan arrived armed with probing questions intended to enforce universal soul searching. Everyone took a long collective look in the mirror and then ordered in a pizza.
Night turned to day, that day being Day 20, to find the remaining celebrities within touching distance of the end. Mario was placed on a secret mission to scrawl bogus messages onstray tennis balls in return for treats. Carol turned her secret opinions inside out by sleep talking about 'annoying' Vicky.
Day 21 proved to be one of the best days yet â definitely in the top 10 â as the Housemates caused a tremor through the pop world with their Battle of the Bands, followed by a sharp intake of breath in the evening as Louie joined Courtney as the latest evictee.
The housemates' penultimate day â Day 22 â was a pretty low key affair. With the HMs reduced in number, all that was left to do was chat about their experience in that strange habitat â a process BB assisted by announcing The Last Supper. This was the traditional last-but-one treat the big dude lays on. A fancy slap up meal in which each housemate raised a toast. They followed this up with a moving slideshow featuring top moments from the past three weeks and then drinks and dancing. A fine way for finalists to celebrate achieving a position on the last day. But who'll be celebrating tonight, when the victor is announced? Well, you might be able to have your say on that one...
Tonight on Celebrity Big Brother's Bit On The Side: Friday 13th September

Day 23: The finalists get ready
It's almost time for the final six housemates to walk through those famous doors, with one being crowned Celebrity Big Brother Winner 2013!
But, before that momentous moment, the housemates have been preening and coiffing themselves to perfection to make sure they dazzle during their big moment.
And here's a little preview of what they look like...
Aww, don't they look lovely, eh?!
Abz makes sure that his hat is adjusted to the right angle
Carol is positively beaming in her velvet number
Charlotte looks confused, but she shouldn't as she looks lovely in her LBD and statement necklace
Lauren's gone for old school Hollywood glamour this evening
Mario's looking sharp in his suit
Vicky looks fit for a finale!
Vicky has finished Celebrity Big Brother in sixth place
Corrie legend Vicky entered the House with fellow Battersby, Les a.k.a Bruce, to a rip-roaring reception from the crowd, only to find that they were first housemates to take residence â or so they thought...
Vicky got off to an interesting start, spending her first night under the stars with her co-star after being voted the 'most famous' housemates. Not quite what they expected as a reward. But she was quick to settle in with the other housemates, only finding a critic in Charlotte who deemed her scary after she tried to stop the Geordie from stealing all the booze. There's a lesson learnt there.
But it was her comical quips with Bruce that she'll most be remembered for, with the couple often mimicking their onscreen personas. She was always on hand to give her on-screen husband good advice, and managed not to make him cry over spilt milk either. And how could we forget their hilarious trip down Big Brother Street?
We saw Vicky's spontaneous side during the 'Guess What?' task, and her up-for-it nature when she agreed to let Lauren loose on her hair on Day 6 and once again on Day 15.Tensions with Charlotte hit boiling point in the final week, and Carol sleep-talked that she found Vicky "annoying".
She'll be fondly remembered for her dry comments and tongue-in-cheek antics, not to mention her incredible pulling skills.
Thanks Vicky, you've been a hoot!
Mario has finished Celebrity Big Brother in fifth place
The reemest housemate in Borehamwood, Mario leaves Celebrity Big Brother in fifth place!
From the minute Mario set foot inside Big Brother's domain, he's been a pleasure to watch, especially when he donned that bright green mankini.
Within days of entering the House, Mario forged a friendship with scripted reality contemporary, Charlotte. The two got on like a reality TV house on fire, chatting the days away and teaching Dustin and Courtney their regionally accented ways for a TOWIE/Geordie mash-up task.
Taken 'hostage' by Mr Big during The Prisoners task, Mario found himself head-to-head with Carol for what turned out to be a fake eviction. He was saved by his housemates, which was nice.
Mario got along with everyone, like the affable sort he is, but he attracted the special attentions of Courtney on more than one occasion. Mario admitted he was a bit scared of her. The two were tethered together for the Double Trouble task, and seemed to get along genuinely well. As an upshot from that task, Mario got his letter from home, which was totes emosh.
A different kind of message from the outside world appeared, or so the housemates thought, when Mario had to smuggle tennis balls bearing messages, in order to win the remainder of the letters from home. He pulled this task off with aplomb, which just goes to show what a caring, sharing sort he is. He was awarded the Public Choice Award for Sexiest Housemate, which is probably all thanks to the aforementioned mankini...
So, farewell, Mario! Have a pleasant journey back to Essex!
Carol has finished Celebrity Big Brother in fourth place
After 23 days (and a lot of plain-speaking), Loose Woman Carol has left the House in fourth place.
An unapologetic addition to the House, Carol entered on the launch night and made it clear she wasn't about to temper her partying reputation for the cameras or the BB audience. She was always keen for the refreshments and wasted no time at all in flirting with House-hunk Mario.
When not raising merry hell in the evening, Carol could be relied upon for scathing (and sometimes highly amusing) deconstructions of her fellow housemates. Quite often this was in the morning with a bit of a sore head. Though Carol formed a tight-knit group with Mario, Charlotte and Louie, she still made time for the other housemates â and was as harsh on her friends as she was on those less close to her.
When it came to tasks, Carol generally gave her all. When 'evicted' (but actually popped into a secret room), she managed to survive the luxury long enough. She put her mind to theTime Is Money task, gave us great value for money in the BBFM task and made a fine panellist when she appeared in Big Brother's Bitchfest towards the end of her stay.
It's time to say goodbye to Carol McGiffin â another brave Loose Woman has made it to the final few days of the Celebrity Big Brother experience and given us days of laughs, fury and a smattering of tipsiness. Now she's out, we can't wait to hear what she's got to say about her time in the compound...
Lauren has finished Celebrity Big Brother in third place
From the moment Lauren stepped into the House, Big Brother had big plans for her, making her a member of the Cult of Celebrity along with Louie and Sophie. She had manydifficult decisions to make as part of the Cult, which she pulled off with her signature style and ease. Speaking of style, though her hairdressing skills were somewhat lacking she gave it her best shot, bless her. We give her top marks for her most recent makeover on Vicky, however.
Lauren's time in the House was made all the lovelier by her friendship with American sweetheart Courtney. The two blondes became BFFs and it was adorable to watch. Although things soon turned sour once Lauren spied her selfish side.
Although not one to start an argument, Lauren still managed to get in the odd tiff or two, most memorably with model Sophie Anderton on Courtney's birthday. And there was the odd exchange with loose woman, Carol, who she was chained to during the 'Double Trouble' task. It was mostly all in jest though.
If there's one thing we'll remember Lauren for, it's her passion for the arts. First, she showed off her song-writing skills with this little ditty about bleach, followed closely by an Oscar-worthy performance as one of Mr Big's hostage victims. But if a career in musical theatre isn't on the cards, then she could always be the next Muhammad Ali.
The only thing left to say is farewell Lauren. You've truly been a unique housemate!
