Sorry if this is a daft questions

I used my HSBC debit card in a hole in the wall machine yesterday ....got £50 out ..

anyway I went to a Barclays Bank later and it swallowed my card ...

I have money in so why did it take it ...?

Ive tried ringing HSBC but cannot get a customer service advisor ...

will my bank automatically send it me back ...or do I need to ring them up ..??

Go in your bank tomorrow, and they should sort it.

Maybe it was a fault on the machine.

Your previous withdrawal would have triggered of security tag on your card. The most likely reason for this is your card has been 'lipped' or bent in some part. The most popular cause of this is carrying your card in a back pocket of your trousers with loose change, and the weight of body fat when sat down creates a 'lip' on the card.

Fraudsters used to be able to utilize this by 'tagging a merc' or 'mercenary card' jargon for a card that is inserted into a cash machine, not to get money out, but to extract previous card usage information, and the first data to be retrieved was 'lip' data.

I suggest contacting the bank on Monday morning and they'll oblige you with the card back.

Hiya Mike.
I would imagine-though I may be wrong-that your card will be returned to HSBC where it will then be forwarded onto you.
I would ring the branch where your card was swallowed AM tomorrow,explain what happened, and they should confirm the procedure.
I wouldnt think it is uncommon.

The card will be destroyed when it is removed. If it is a cashline not attached to a bank it will be done by securicor if it is attached to a bank it will be done by bank staff. Although if it is attached to a bank and you go in with photographic goverment issued ID (passport or drivers licence) it may be returned to you as i know i did this with some people when i looked after the cashlines at my old work.

It could have been a fault in the machine as if the connection goes down it can keep the cards.

The card IS secure but i would recommend cancelling it tomorrow and requesting a new one or if you have internet banking this can sometimes be done online.

The last time I had my HBOS debit card swallowed up by a Barclays ATM it was because the card had expired. Luckily, I had my new debit card sitting at home.

Try using the lost or stolen number, they should be ther 24hours just in case there is something amiss. I did that when my card was taken at a petro station turned out there was a cloning machine attached to the machine. They stopped the card straight away and sent me out a new one, only problem was it took ten days to get to me.

I Rang *India Calling* (said not racist just fact ...!!!)

I spent 1 hr going through keywords an alsorts ....
then every person, I connected to wanted to pretend they were in the UK an talk Eastenders to me the F*CKERS ..

Just order and send me a card FFS !! lol

I dont want to be your bestest mate ok ...

I even said right Ive blue underwear on now ...
can you just proceed to send a card ...

I told them not shouty/mad...
I hope its as hot in Bombay ....as its in Blackpool
we are in a call centre in Scotland, I got told ..hahahahaha

Ive no money til it arrives ...lol

Im awaiting the UN food drop I asked for ...

pmsl we had that problem at my old work... we had a lot of foreign people in the branch and everytime someone called we got accused of being a call centre
