Guilty or not?
Why resign? Surely you stand your ground and fight back if you're not guilty

You're right Baz.
Religion (of any faith) doesn't cut it with me and I tend to think no good of any, but everyone to their own I guess. I was just curious as to what peeps on here thought
Only he knows if he's guilty at this stage. I wonder why the 3 priests are accusing him now if it supposedly happened back in 80's.

Yes, I wondered that too YR........but on the other hand, if there was no substance to the allegations, why would he resign.

Yeah YR. Seems odd doesn't it? Pope resigning and all that?
All I know is that Britain doesn't have a say in voting the new Pope now.
Could that be a good thing or a bad thing Cologne?

I saw on TV that the priests said that they felt they could not, this man controlled their lives - every aspect of it.
If the priests have made allegations, is there now a police investigation underway?

I've seen things online where people are suspicious of the reasons for the Pope to resign. Without knowing anything different I'm prepared to believe he's just become too weary through certain health problems and age to feel he should carry on.

It's an embarassment for the Church in the uk but I doubt his one vote would make any difference to who's chosen

Nothing yet, as far as I can gather, but early days

Just an assumption but couldn't they have reported it for example to their Bishop?

I really don't know much about the church or religion in any depth, but my gut feeling tells me they would close ranks. Given everything that is now coming out about Jimmy S, I think it's probably easier to suppress in the church.

Yes you could be right. All the revelations that have come out since JS have been unsettling to learn about but I think it's good so much is being brought out into public awareness, hopefully it will deter "some" but I doubt everyone who has such perverted inclinations. I was thinking yesterday that quite a few have been named but as yet no one's been brought to trial, obviously a long process.
Just in case you think I've posted and ran. I haven't. I'm just watching the convo

Yes, I hope people who have suffered for both long periods of time and those who have recently suffered find the courage to expose these people so the law of the land to put them where they cannot destroy any more lives.

Ah, right, I thought you were watching the film called The Conversation. Was going to ask which channel it was on !!
Just watching on Newsnight, the Pope sacked him
So why is it being said he resigned Supes?
Well we are certainly in crisis for sure.
Cardinal OBrien has always been controversial ,just some days ago he spoke about Priest being able to marry ,and now we have these allegations.I find it strange that he was ordained in 1965,became an Archbishop , Cardinal .He is /was the President of Bishops he took part in the Papal conclave in 2005 (Pope Benidict) and not a word was ever uttered about any wrong doing.
When the pope abdicated the cardinal called for the rights for a priest to marry and I thought then that his days were numbered
I guess one of the advantages of keeping secrets in a cult is that you can use them when you need them and this cult really doesn't want married priests
So why is it being said he resigned Supes?
The Pope, "asked him to resign." Sprouty, i.e. he was sacked
Well we are certainly in crisis for sure.

Sign of the times? things have moved on?

Cardinal O'Brien was known as Cardinal of Controversy,he wanted the church to move on but he was in the minority.
So why is it being said he resigned Supes?

Ah right
What happens Cardinal O'Brien would hand in his resignation to the Pope some months ago to be accepted nunc pro tunc, which means ânow for laterâ. The cardinal handed in his resignation back in November and it would take effect later this year.
The Popeâs decision that he must stand down immediately.

Just saw this "Cardinal Keith O'Brien Resigns To Contest 'Inappropriate Behaviour' Claim"

I expect all the faithfuls would disagree with you. I'm a typical non-believer but I'd still be happier if every country could be represented.
It's a crying shame that the Pope holds enough power to deter ppl from taking birth/aids control. For that alone he should not be omnipotent.
Edit: Not that he is, obviously.
