Yeah YR. Seems odd doesn't it?  Pope resigning and all that?

I've seen things online where people are suspicious of the reasons for the Pope to resign. Without knowing anything different I'm prepared to believe he's just become too weary through certain health problems and age to feel he should carry on.

I saw on TV that the priests said that they felt they could not, this man controlled their lives - every aspect of it.

Just an assumption but couldn't they have reported it for example to their Bishop?

I really don't know much about the church or religion in any depth, but my gut feeling tells me they would close ranks. Given everything that is now coming out about Jimmy S, I think it's probably easier to suppress in the church.

Yes you could be right. All the revelations that have come out since JS have been unsettling to learn about but I think it's good so much is being brought out into public awareness, hopefully it will deter "some" but I doubt everyone who has such perverted inclinations. I was thinking yesterday that quite a few have been named but as yet no one's been brought to trial, obviously a long process.

Yes, I hope people who have suffered for both long periods of time and those who have recently suffered find the courage to expose these people so the law of the land to put them where they cannot destroy any more lives.

Well we are certainly in crisis for sure.

Cardinal OBrien has always been controversial ,just some days ago he spoke about Priest being able to marry ,and now we have these allegations.I find it strange that he was ordained in 1965,became an Archbishop , Cardinal .He is /was the President of Bishops he took part in the Papal conclave in 2005 (Pope Benidict) and not a word was ever uttered about any wrong doing.

Cardinal O'Brien was known as Cardinal of Controversy,he wanted the church to move on but he was in the minority.

Ah right

What happens Cardinal O'Brien would hand in his resignation to the Pope some months ago to be accepted nunc pro tunc, which  means “now for later”. The cardinal handed in his resignation back in November and it would take effect later this year.

The Pope’s decision that he must stand down immediately.

I expect all the faithfuls would disagree with you. I'm a typical non-believer  but I'd still be happier if every country could be represented.
