When you hear a dog called Steve or Colin..  it always makes me laugh.

My kids aren't right keen on it..    there are two dogs called Molly, & a dog called Alfie on our dog walking circuit..     the kids think I gave them dog names!

People call their dogs Steve or Colin?! :blink and hmm smilie:

We've got a beautiful long haired GSD, (Vinnie), looks a lot like this

He'll be 4 in September.

Here he is...AJ!    my fave hairy baby...     I love him soo much!    He's a Cairn Terrier, and is 7 years old, and "has character" (as my kids teachers phrase it)..

As a puppy:

As an adolescent (a naughty adolescent, trying to look casual when being caught making a garden escape tunnel)

After a bath (sulking in the garden...  trying to decide if his ordeal is over, or if we are going to be getting the clippers out)

He has seen us get the clippers out:

letting off steam after his "trim"

Summer - AJ has a border terrier girlfriend..  she is a right floozy..   she see's him...  sprints up to him, rolls over legs akimbo to present her nethers to him!

I love the 4th photo, i can't stop laughing at his face

Deal!

Summer..    you are gonna explode waiting!

I remember the wait we had to get AJ..    we first rang the breeder & was told they had a red brindle bitch, sired by a grey brindle (I wanted a red/grey brindle) pregnant at that time & to phone back in a fortnight to see if there had been any dogs in the litter (we wanted a boy).  That fortnight seemed like a year..   phoned exactly 14 days later, at 9am , Pippa, AJ's Mum had had 2 bitches & 1 dog (it was her first litter).   So I said save me the dog.

We were allowed up to see them 5 weeks later..   (another long long wait)..     and there they had got out about 15 dog puppies for us to look at.    AJ chose us!   And it was Pippa's boy as well...    he was the largest puppy systematically taking the toys away from the others & stashing them in the corner for himself..    when he saw us he barged his way past all the others and demanded our undivided attention.

Then came the even harder bit..   we gave the deposit money, but had to leave him there til he was 8 weeks old..   I went to say bye to him & he was back in his pen with his two sisters..   he had his head on his paws... & his sisters were walking (literally) all over him

LONGEST 3 WEEK WAIT EVER!!!!!

Still..  gave us time to read every book going, buy every toy going, buy him about 3 beds etc etc etc.

The books all said "your puppy may be frightened & insecure when you first collect him to take him home"..   so we were all prepared..   we had a beany toy dog for him (which he still has, called Sprocket.. his special teddy)..    which had been kept in the dirty laundry basket for a fortnight (to make it smell like us apparently)...

we needen't have worried.     AJ didn't even look back!      there was nothing frightened about him.. he came home & had a kebab supper with us!

Oh... & we met his Dad, Basil, when we picked him up.    A ball of hair he was..     he saw Pippa...  & the breeder had to pick him up quick sharpish as the dirty old boy was making a bee line for her..      so, I will always remember Basil as a ball of black hair.,.   with a bright red lipstick  sticking out from the middle!

Oh &..   Summer..     find out where your local puppy school classes are!      It really is well worth doing (they are usually 1 night a week for about 12 weeks)
