Serena Williams will play Caroline Wozniacki in the US Open tennis final this Sunday. Serena is a 5 times winner of the event while Caroline’s only previous Grand Slam final appearance ended in defeat at the 2009 US Open.
I must admit that I thought Caroline’s best tennis was behind her and that the year and a bit spent as World No.1 would be her lasting, yet hollow, greatest achievement. However, since being dumped by Rory McIlroy her game seems to have improved dramatically and her slip from the World Top 10 now looks like only a temporary setback.
Serena is a powerhouse and has always had the measure of Caroline whose defensive skills, while tactically brilliant, are not usually enough against a big hitter in top form. This could be massive for Caroline – perhaps even career defining; but does she have the game to beat the great Serena Williams?
