I can usually see Venus very clearly from my bedroom window.
I thought it was a UFO until hubby put me right

I think... that the first star you see in the sky at dusk, the biggest and brightest star, is actually Venus.
I can't help you, my blinds are shut. Nothing to do with not having a clue about planets and stuff
I've just gone to look and I can't find the moon!
Someone's nicked it.

I'm sure it is then! *gets out telescope to have a look!*
I think it's the wrong time of year for Venus Lockes but I could be so wrong about that. The moon has been beautiful the last few nights.

* goes to look* I'll leave the reply box open until I have looked.
I looked the trees behind the house were obscuring my view so I could only see the moon. But what a bloody lovely bright moon it is tonight.

Venus is usually quite low in the sky either early morning or early evening depending on the time of year.

lol skive, that's a bit worrying....but I just checked and it's still there! Phew!
It's Jupiter Lockes.
I just found this on a search.
"At the moment the Moon is very close to Jupiter in the sky. It passed Jupiter about 4 hours ago, so tonight Jupiter will appear on the right of the Moon, instead of the left (in the Northern Hemisphere). The Moon moves roughly half a constellation every night, so it's never close to any particular background object for more than a day or so".

Sorry got sidetracked. When I went out I noticed the washing was still out, so I just got it in. Yes I think it may be; or Jupiter maybe.
Not me! Our moon is missing here too!!quote:Originally posted by skive:

You can see Venus any time of the year, it's never far from the sun so you get to see it either for a couple of hours in the morning or a couple after sunset......every month

I can`t see it at the moment - is it in the east or the west?
Venus is in Cancer right now and would be below the western horizon and would have gone down before the Sun.

Well yo ay avin much success
If you think about it, Venus is always going to appear fairly close to the Sun when viewed from the Earth (because we're further away from the Sun). You're therefore not going to see it in the middle of the night when the Sun's on the other side of the planet.
Yep it is Jupiter.
Jupiter is in Aquarius and Moon is in Pisces so they are close to each other.

Mars was closest to the earth earlier on in the summer Ditty and yes it is time for the meteor showers. I haven't heard yet when they are due to start.
