 (Abena the Whore)
Heheh - that reminds me of the stories about William the Conqueror. He was originally known as "William the Bastard". You just know that anyone who gets called that every day will have a bit of a chip on his shoulder and will be rather keen to change it at the first opportunity...

kath thanks a salesgirl, calling her 'siobahn', how its spelt on her name badge, instead of saying 'shervaun'
I worked with someone who had to write to a Siobahn - she knew it was pronounced Shervaun but didn't know how to spell it so she asked us. I was the only one who knew how it was spelt, but she didn't believe me so she rang up the woman, asked her & was a bit embarrassed when it was confirmed as correct.

Many many many years ago I used to work for BT in the Phone Book Group...  we had the drawers containing cards of Exdirectory customers.  Loads of them were exdirectory cos of their highly amusing names!   Mr R. Adanglin is one I remember...    hoping he was a richard that shortened it to Dick!

It was a boring job...   we had to get our laughs somewhere
