A local pub near us was doing a burns night but it was really expensive for what it was. Plus I dont eat haggis, so we are having a lovely home cooked meal with salmon instead of haggis
We've had haggis, tatties and neeps for dinner - but no poetry reading sessions.
Yogi, it's the taste that matters!
Happy Burns Night.

Nope,I don't see the point to be honest.Fair enough if you like reading his poetry etc,but it seems just an excuse for a pissup with some.I did study Robert Burns and used his poetry when I sat my Higher English exam, but that was decades ago.

When I was doing my asda.com grocery shop at the weekend, I saw Haggis. But I didn't buy it, it was only a couple of quid and probably not premium quality haggis . I'd love to know what haggis tastes like though? A bit like sausage, maybe?
Happy Burns Night, you Scots!

How was it Cagney ? Neeps and tatties are lovely with a bit of butter... But haggis... unknown territory
It was lovely. Really peppery. You should try it at least once. I made cheesy mash with carrot and neep mash on the side. Served with oatcakes
Just tuckin in to my haggis neeps and tatties at the mo
Rosie - whatever you do....don't read the ingredients before you try it. It sounds awful but it's lovely to eat. Better ingredients than Scotch pie or hotdogs anyway
Happy Burns night!

Wise advice, Cags! I love it but still won't read the recipe....
I had a modern version mind, haggis, microwaved for five minutes.. tatties and neep,pre- prepared... ditto.

Cagney... liking the sound of it... haggis sounds a bit like sausage roll.... a bit savoury, a bit mysterious

Too late! Abody`s left cause o` it.
It's not fair to keep them as pets, Gyps! They keep falling over on level ground.. on account of them having legs on one side shorter than the other for running around the hills.
Cheers Bizzie!

that is exactly what my dad used to say
Gypsie... my boss's English girlfriend was absolutely amazed by that fact. She had it explained to her one weekend they were up north and he took her on a haggis hunt.

I always remember someone getting booted out and banned from an UK based chatroom that used Americans as the moderators for saying that The poor woman was talking about the meaty treats.

That's very similar to what my Dad told me about the sheep that live on the Pennines. He told me that they had longer back legs, so when they were walking up the hills they were level if they wanted to stop to eat. It wasn't until I was 19 and enthusiastically informing my boyfriend at the time of this very interesting fact on a drive up to Scotland that I actually thought about it and felt very very stupid.
In The Archers tonight on Radio 4 they had a Burns Night in Harry's flat.
Harry cooked and Jazza sang (rather nicely.)
