I've just received a buddy invitation which looks a bit dodgy to me. Anyone else received one from someone they don't know giving their email address?

I assume the email is in the little message box ? could it be from someone you know who has changed their name on here ?
I don't know. I don't know where to find them. I send them by hitting the add buddy thingywhatsit but....
I don't know. I don't know where to find them
check the alert tab in your ticker on black bar or click the orange triangle near your name on right hand side top of page
Pardon my ignorence but what would be the motive for sending an disingenuois one.
Dunno who it is. They only joined today and have their location as Nigeria, which, awful as it sounds, is what makes me suspicious. They haven't posted anything anywhere, just given me their e-mail address saying they want to be my friend.

I would be very careful of that one Queenie
It just doesn't seem right but I'd feel awful if it was someone I knew or just someone being friendly.

Don't reply just delete it.
you can always leave it pending - if you refuse they are sent a message telling them you have refused I would be suspicious as well TBH

He probably has an offer to make you incredibly wealthy and all you have to do is contact him with your bank details.

if it is someone you know then hopefully they are reading and will dialog you ? I think you have to accept or refuse - there is no delete option
Just send your bank details.
I won't name the member in question, but I've just received a buddy request and it sounds like it's from the same person.
They've only joined today, and are quoting a Yahoo e-mail address.
Definitely looks like spam and/or phishing to me...
I am now annoyed that I haven't got one!

Hmmm, definitely the same person. I think I'm just going to refuse it.Reference:

Do you want mine?
BTW: if you have been contacted by this person, you'll probably find that you've received a new "dialog" as well as a buddy request.
Go to your home site and look under "Dialogs" on the top line...

He/she knows they'd be biting off more than they could chew if they let you anywhere near them. You'd run off with all the money and leave them pennyless.
I haven't got one! *feels left out*

What does the dialog say?

What does the dialog say?
me..?didnt see any
The title says Nice To Meet You
The dialogue says
"i would like to be your friend have my e mail *******@yahoo.com hope to hear from u mail me"

If said person does not let you know who they are, then I would refuse the buddy invitation AND I would let the mods know about it. Hopefully they can trace this person and put a stop to it before it develops into something nasty.

"nice meeting u", and then the same content (yahoo address, etc) as the buddy request.

Sounds like a phishing scam to me. He is going through the people he sees online and sends a buddy request and asks that you email him instead of engaging with you on this site.
Report it to the mods.

Nope, no way! Even if they said they were Edna from down the road. No reasonable person joins up and immediately tries to enter into e-mail and PM contact. I'd definitely alert the mods to this person. It may turn out to be totally innocent, but there's no harm in being cautious.Reference:

That's what I thought too. I'm not that internet savvy so I don't really know how phishing works but I was a bit worried about security. I've rejected the invitation. How do I contact the mods about it?Reference: Fluffy

I would, in this instance, send a PM(dialog) to Ted O'Neil. The head chappy. I know it's still early morning in Seattle, but he'll get it as soon as he gets in.
Hmmm, definitely the same person. I think I'm just going to refuse it.
thats a sensible option IMO
Hahahahaha Yes from Henry, I've ignored it.
