It's in the black bar at the top Baz. It's hard to explain..... but it keeps you updated on things you are interested in?
For example, if one of your Buddies makes a new blog/thread it will show up on your ticker page, then you can click on it to go straight there.
If you read someones blog/thread and then reply on it whether they are your buddy or not subsequent replies on that thread will be in your ticker.
If you don't reply in a thread/blog but you want to know when there are more replies you can choose to "follow" it and then new replies will appear in your ticker.
