So - our microave went bang about 2 weeks ago and we've not really missed it

We take things out of the freezer the night before, let it defrost in the fridge to reduce the cooking time - and plan meals ahead.
I'm rediscovering our sauce pan!!
So its not really been too much of a hardship - odd cos i thought i wud miss it soo much like i couldn't cope.

Why don't we not just go and buy one? Well we want co-ordinated set (microwave, toaster, kettle) and have been looking but not found wot we like.

How have you coped wen something you need, breaks?

Our microwave died last week too.    I initially thought I could do without it til payday.... til ten minutes later when I was holding a pack of frozen chicken breasts I needed to defrost!

Out came the "for use in life or death situations only credit card" and we went and got the cheapest one that Tesco's had in stock.

Was ÂĢ30 ....  in their value range.... and works a treat!

Didnt miss it at all, and still find myself using the hob.
I need it for defrosting mainly.  The stuff we really cook in the microwave is veg (the spoon of water & clingfilm covering steaming method), scrambled dgg (when the kids make their own in a morning)... and for reheating meals when one of them decides to be late / go to the loo for half an hour / forget to mention they are off to a parish council meeting, when the meal I have lovingly prepared is being served!

I had to post this.... I didn't want anyone thinking I was like my mates mum... who I have seen cook a whole chicken sunday dinner in the microwave...  I have never seen such an anaemic looking chicken...  and I wasn't fooled by the gravy granule brown colour she brushed over it to make it look better.
