Last week - the girls boyfriend went to dinner. He said something about Danny meeting up with someone regularly. The Dad was really surprised/annoyed.  Who was he talking about?

Was it the dad's business partner - fishing trips or something like that?

I can't remember now.. I want to watch it again to see if there were any clues.

Yes I found that a bit  .............also the way it went all slow mo as DT was following the phone signal - all a bit odd - especially as he just walked into the house and the boy just sat there and did nothing.

It had been pretty realistic up to that point - to suddenly go all 'dreamy/mystical' was out of place IMO.

It was a bit mystical before though - Will Mellor's psychic had passed on messages from beyond before the end, so it kinda fitted in my head.

I agree with Xochi ( and Mrs Jer ) , I felt the ending ruined what had been a good series . Too many loose ends ...and it left me with the feeling that in the end most of the characters had been thrown in simply to *fill up space.* In retrospect, I think the whole thing could have been done and dusted in say three episodes.

I enjoyed the series LB.... just not the ending

What the very ending or all the episode? I was scared it was going to be a let down but I was pleasantly surprised. Don't often see the aftermath the crime has on the local community . Can't understand how they will have a second series tho...

perhaps it'll just be about the community itself. It's just called Broadchurch - there doesn't have to be another murder. Everyone seems to have secrets of some kind.

No, the whole of the final episode LB.... and yes, I thought the premise was very good....and I LOVE David Tennant..... I just feel that in the end it just didn't deliver on it's promise for me....

Me too Carport and Baz. It was trying too hard to tie up the mystery in a rather old-fashioned 'this is what actually happened' flashback method.

I thought it was much better than the usual hum drum stuff that is proffered. We knew after a few minutes who had done it and then we got to see how the community coped with it. Marvellous and in English. Thank the Lord.

I also think it went on way too long - I lost interest but stuck with it - I would like to live there though - I can see another series about the actual community  being quite good maybe.

I'll give it a go Sooz, but I really did find this lacking in something, my attention span can be dodgy at the best of times, but this didn't have me gripped. I lost interest a few times and was left wondering why I stuck with it after last nights episode... Saying that, its had rave reviews, I just didn't fine it that fantastic.

That did make me .

The writer did a long interview in the Radio Times in which he listed all his influences and intentions, and how he got the idea 10 years ago and so on, but half the fun of watching it for me was ticking off all the references to Scandinavian (and particularly Danish) Noir. When this and the already-forgotten "Mayday" came out, there were a lot of articles about how they were attempts at doing an British version of Danish thrillers such as "The Killing" and "The Bridge" - and how right they were.

BTW: to all those complaining about "Broadchurch" being too long at 8 episodes, all I can say is that the Granddaddy of this sort of thing (a murder mystery where the investigation is spread out over the whole series) was "Murder One" - and that had 22 episodes, i.e. even longer than the first series of "The Killing" (and in practise its broadcast took even longer because the BBC delayed the last couple of episodes due to coverage of the Olympics.   )

And yes: I sat through the whole lot...

Eugene's Lair

I've read loads of comments online about the show - some liked it, some didn't, but most agreed it was really good even if, like some here, they felt a bit let down about the ending (personally, I didn't)  The ones that make me laugh most and the snobby 'I didn't watch any of it.. it was on ITV for goodness sake, I've not watched any of the rubbish they put on for the past 20 years'   Not just narrow minded, but particularly thick if they can't work out that maybe, just maybe, there may have been some good things in the past 20 years, but they'd not know if they never watch.    Best one said 'Oh no, I never watch that - except for Emmerdale'

I prefer to choose my telly watching from trailers, papers and recommendations and most times I couldn't even tell you what channel they're on.

When ITV is good it's very very good. They put out some superb drama. I'm a big fan of the BBC on principle, but we must never forget that they are quite prepared to put on ITV type rubbish such as the Voice, in an attempt to chase ratings. I also don't like the X Factor style major/minor music they use on Masterchef. It's not a matter of life and death, it's a few punters trying to make some scran that might be eaten by that odd family up the road. Looking forward to Scott and Bailey. I think Ruth may be returning soon.
