Now I haven't watched any of this years BGT as part of my oath to watch as little of ITV as possible.  However I was round a friends house this evening, with a group of friends, and they had BGT on, it was mainly on in the background and not many people were taking much notice...until one specific act.

I forget the name of the act but it involved a female opera type singer and her dog...who also sings...apparently.  The thing was, the dog wasn't singing...it was howling, not in tune, not in time, just randomly howling and whimpering.  Now the girl could sing quite well, and she had nice boobs, so I thought it odd that she would have her dog with her ruining her performance.

At first I was surprised that none of the judges 'buzzed' her, maybe they didn't want to frighten the dog? Yes, that's the reason, that's what I told myself anyway.  However when the act finished, everyone was clapping and cheering. Simon even gave a standing ovation!

Have I seriously missed something here? With my choice not to watch BGT, have i missed out on a new format to the show where they have shite acts in the finals? Has it all been like this?  Is it really a talent?

I'm just so confused, i have so many questions and I don't know why I even care. Please enlighten me...

Ooh: good, was it? I was looking forward to it, but had to record it in the end.

Annie NIghtingale has been a huge influence on my musical tastes over the years...

Eugene's Lair

I have only seen the adverts for this diabolical programme. The one that had me wanting to barf was the young boy with a hat on singing a Frank Sinatra song, and then asking Louis Walsh if he was single because his Aunty was looking for a boyfriend, or words to that effect. I hate all these live programmes where the public are encouraged to phone in so that the television companies can make wodges of  money from gullible punters.

Agrees with Stonks, it's aload of rubbish and some of the acts they put through were just stupid

I also thought the woman should have sang without the dog

Aimee

I think I'm missing something.

I didn't watch the first one, but I believe Paul Potts, the winner, has done quite well out of it. He was a manager at the Carphone Warehouse, before he entered the competition, whilst performing as an amateur opera singer in his spare time.

George Sampson, the 'street dancer', won the second one. Not my choice of winner, but he is now acting in Waterloo Road and doing it rather well, IMO.

Diversity, a dance troupe, won the third one, pipping Susan Boyle to the post. They were my choice of winner and are absolutely brilliant. Susan Boyle has also done very well out of it.

Last year's winners were Spelbound, are a gymnastic troupe. Another group of incredibly talented youngsters, who were also my choice of winners.

The winners all receive ÂĢ100,000 and a spot on the Royal Variety Show. Some of them get contracts, obviously, and I'd advise them all to get them checked thoroughly, but good luck to all of them.

My point is, I'm not sure why this programme is seen as such an evil enterprise. It gives people a chance to make a career out of what they love doing, it entertains the public (those who enjoy it, anyway) and it raises quite a bit for charity.

Agrees with Aimee..I still can't believe the crap they put through and trampled on the dreams of better artists, this years show is like a massive pee take....

My daughter went to one of the auditions and said there were two fantastic acts that got through the first audition (both singers, one a brother and sister about 15/17 and the other a girl singer about 20) who had the audience on their feet...of their own accord and not as it is shown on TV half the time cos all that is filmed before the show.

Neither act, despite getting through the auditions to the 2nd round was shown on Tv or had any ocoverage at all and yet 'acts' and I used the term loosely, like the bloke who can pop his eyes out get through? And its not a fix?

They obviously knew who they wanted in the final and even the shows this week were set up to ensure the acts they wanted got through.

Personally I've only seen one act that I would deem worthy of winning and thats Razy...the rest are a load of shite.

Oh I can believe that, I have a friend who went for XFactor and she saw what a fix that was..which ones Razy?....

stonks

IMO, Razy should not be in the final.  And neither should that old man who did all the stupid bloody dancing ... People dancing 'alone' (or moving about, doing acrobatics, and passing it off as dancing,) are boring to watch...  IMO....

'Out of the Blue' should be there.......they were brilliant, and even the audience booed like mad when they failed to go through....  Re Razy; Come on, who wants ANOTHER bloody tedious bendy flexy bloody scrawny lad throwing himself around the stage a la George naffing boring Sampson..!?  BOOOOORING!

If Razy does win, I guarantee his 'career' will last as long as Chavryl Cole's career in America!

I would rather the four lads or that Michael guy on the guitar from last night walks off with the winner's crown.....  OR that brilliant impressionist.... Please GOD do not let another frigging 'dance act..' win!

Stonks, Razy is a Romanian 'dancer' who can twist and bend his body in different positions, and it's quite clever, but not worth of being in the final IMO.  I would get bored after 90 seconds of watching him as he is a one trick pony.  This is him....................

I couldn't agree with you more Blizz.

BGT is an entertainment show..... it entertains millions.... so it's doing exactly what it says on the tin as far as I'm concerned. It's not there to solve the worlds problems, it's not there to educate, it's just a bit of lighthearted fun.

The reason I believe the semi-finals are a mix of the good and the...erm.... not so good, is because like it or not that's what makes this show interesting, gets people talking, and adds humour to what otherwise would be a very dull experience (for those of us not interested in taking it too seriously). It's a variety show, if it was just full of good singers and dancers.... it would be very boring! Speaking as someone who didn't watch a single audition, I've loved the mad mix on the live shows. It's made me laugh so much all week

I have to agree the standard is down this year though...... but I think that's more to do with us having seen it all before. There's not that many unique acts around unfortunately, and the best of them have already been through the process in previous series.

I can understand why people get annoyed when these daft acts get through over more seriously talented people, but tbh if they were acts that the producers seriously believed had a shot at winning, they'd be there. I honestly believe that. I've never bought into this idea of producers deciding who they want to win months in advance, it's in their best interest to give the public what they want.....because we're the ones controlling the off switch. (The problems start when they misjudge what we want of course ) I'm sure some will disagree with my opinon on the "integrity" (I use the term loosely ) of the producers, but if it's purely about the producers choice of acts, then people are always going to disagree with that....because we all like different things.....and I reckon that's part of what makes this show so much fun....and part of the reason we're all discussing it now come to that!

Olly if you're lurking...... I'm dedicating this waffle to you!

One trick ponies should be pointed and laughed at in the audition phase.....and kept out of the semi finals. But then they might only be able to fill one show's worth?

I do like Razy...... though.   I'm a sucker for a bendy body.

Ducky, I like you but I disagree...

You see that's one reason why I stopped watching BGT because the 'stupid' acts were put through to the final and that's not because I don't want to be entertained its because I actually find it quite morally wrong.

I shall explain....*clears throat*

A crap act goes to audition for the producers, the producers recognise it as a crap act and send them through to the judges because it will be 'funny' to watch.  That crap act will get buzzed once or twice at their audition but will be sent through to the live shows.

Now this is where I feel the wrongness gets involved.  Even though the crap act is very crap the fact that they've been put through to the live shows will make them think that they are actually 'talented' and have a shot at winning.  They appear on the live show and get buzzed off stage with the judges telling them how 'awful' and 'useless' they were, basically embarrassing that act LIVE on TV in front of millions.

My point being is that the humiliation this act has to deal with should have ended at the audition and they should not be giving false hope thinking that they are better then they actually are.

Its just wrong and makes me angry! They are only put through to the LIVE shows just to be BUZZED off!

But I still like you Ducky

Rawky-Roo

I like you too Rawky ...... yet I couldn't disagree more.

I can see what you're saying though..... and certainly in the audition stages of BGT (and X Factor) there's a certain amount of humilation going on.... in fact I've only been watching these shows in the last couple of years, because before that I couldn't bear to watch without turning them over when someone crap came on. I must have toughened up recently!

I don't believe any act goes through to the semi finals based on a wish to humilate them though. I think they genuinely put people through who are either talented , or whose act is unusual and stands out in some way.

The problem lies in the fact that many of the "unusual" acts are never as successful second time around. They can brilliant in the audition, the audience and judges love them, but once you've seen them once, it all goes a bit .......meh!

But what is good about this show is that the public rarely get it wrong....and the best of the bunch tend to go through to the final   (Out of the Blue notwithstanding .... but that's just my opinion innit  )

Now if you could just agree with every word I just said, I promise I'll like you forever.

Ducky

I'm a bit gutted I've come to these programmes a bit late to be honest...... firstly BGT's standard of talent has definitely dipped a bit (and no SC on the audition shows), and now X Factor have a whole new judging panel (except Louis the only one who SHOULD have gone!)

AND BB has gone to Channel 5.

That only leaves me with Doctor Who....and that finishes tonight.

a) BB & Dr Who should not be put into the same category as XFactor & BGT

b) YAYAYAYAY!!!!!    Does the decline of your dodgier viewing mean you'll be forgoing them in the future, and mean you won't abandon me to go over to the dark side for months on end to watch them.

c)  I like you and I like Rawky!
