No 10 adds pressure on Duke to resign as trade envoy

Downing Street would “shed no tears” if the Duke of York resigned as UK trade envoy, government sources said yesterday, amid growing Cabinet concern about his conduct and the first signs that his job might be downgraded. Senior sources said that they could not dismiss the Duke but were unwilling to shore up his position after he came under attack over his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted paedophile. The Duke has also faced criticism for his alleged links to Saif Gaddafi, the son of the Libyan leader, and for entertaining at Buckingham Palace the son-in-law of the ousted Tunisian president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

The Duchess of York accepted ÂĢ15,000 from Prince Andrew’s convicted child sex offender friend to help pay off her debts, the Daily Mail can reveal.

In a deal that Sarah Ferguson has claimed was brokered by her ex-husband, disgraced billionaire Jeffrey Epstein paid the money directly to her former personal assistant, Johnny O’Sullivan.

Mr O’Sullivan, 42, was owed ÂĢ78,000 in unpaid wages and bills thanks to the lavish lifestyle which left the duchess ÂĢ5million in debt.

Last night, she accepted that she was wrong to rely financially on the disgraced Epstein and vowed to return the cash.

But her sensational admission is yet another blow to the beleaguered Duke of York, already fighting to save his job as UK trade envoy. It came as:

■ The Prime Minister requested a personal briefing on the full extent of the allegations against the duke;

■ Ministers privately indicated they would not ‘shed any tears’ if he fell on his sword;

■ The woman at the centre of the claims, Virginia Roberts, said she was prepared to testify to the FBI about her relationship and time ‘alone’ with the duke;

■ It was revealed that two more women were asked under oath if they had ever had sex with Andrew at Epstein’s mansion. Both declined to answer

'In a warning that may have come from the Queen, the duke’s aides have advised him that his continued association with the paedophile risked damaging the reputation of the monarchy'

Like the way one is thinking of the reputation of the Monarchy and not the fact that being great mates with a convicted paedo is on a human scale, questionable in its own right, let alone the damage to the family's rep.

Can just imagine her: "Yo son, now you sit yo assss down a second boy. Now let me tell ya, if u keep on knockin around with dat dodgy sonovabitch you gawn have people talkin in dis here hood u hear what aam sayin? Now dis family, wees got a rep to protect. Ya dig?"

I don't understand what all the fuss is about. Unless Cameron is going to bring back socialism later on, this country relies on trade. We don't make much anymore but have to try to sell weapons or whatever in the marketplace. This means we need to be as corrupt as everyone else. Be careful what you wish for. I'd love it all to collapse but I can imagine people on here bleating on about it being everyone else's fault.

Erm....it's Epstein that's the convicted paedophile...not Prince Andrew.  Admittedly it's not a great choice in friendships, but he's not the criminal.

Don't see why he should be sacked over it, unless it's a case of hidden agendas were peeps have been looking to get rid of him for a while.  After all, one of the photos was dated December wasn't it?  It's March now.  Surely whoever took the photo knew the scandal it would cause, so why only come out with it now?
