In my experience (and I am always open to being proved wrong) but in the predominantely Asian areas I travel through in Sheffield (been through one today), hard landscaping is the order of the day. Their communities don't seem to be keen on plants, flowers and trees. Just places for cars.

Yes, If I moved to say Germany, I would start learning the language long before going.

If theplanting improves the environment for shoppers, and if this brings in more shopper, more regularly, then that should benefit the shop keeprers.
