Sheffield has loads of flats, some of them with relatively new cladding. My friend lives on the top floor of one of them. Not actually spoken to him about it yet.
I for one, will not be betting against you, Baz.
The MIL lives in a tower block (3rd floor). Mr Fluffy and I have kept the Grenfell Tower news from her, but we can't vouch for what other family members might say to her.
Just turned over to Sky News....800 to be evacuated Heads need to roll somewhere for this debacle
it's not only flats, it's schools, shopping centres....a multitude of buildings

I tell you, I can see uprising shortly

hopefully it won't come to that, but this is what happens when you deliberately cause a bigger divide.

Hopefully.....but tensions are rising, and then they will send the police in to deal with things.....what police? when they've been cut beyond all recognition

Oh hell! I work in the basement of a hospital that was built in 2000! It'll all collapse on top of me!

everything was cut to the bone to give away billions in tax ...the inequality in this country is now back to Victorian times and instead of austerity fairly for everyone and investing in housing and hospitals we wouldn't be cladding over cracks.

That wouldn't really surprise me either.

I don't think you're area is on the new list of the next 24 Twenty four and no one seems to give a sh*t, unbelieveable
No matter what people think of the Scottish government, I personally, think that the NHS in Scotland is a little less battered than the NHS in England BECAUSE we have a Scottish government.

I totally agree Fluffy, you've not got these greedy barstewards running riot in your hospitals, Private firms putting in lower bids than the NHS and winning them, it's quite sickening really.

And I think it's a North/South thing. What the hell does this Tory Government know about us up here? be it right or left side of the country

it's not Pam....a lot of the hospitals cuts are in London on the next list...Cornwall and Devon are in real poverty, but because of the area it covers it's tory even though labour got the most votes.

You do know that the streets south of Watford aren't paved with gold , don't you ?
4,000 people being moved out tonight where are they going to place these people...what about their jobs etc

I don't think they dare risk it happening again Dame .....I know if I had to live in one of those affected blocks I'd be terrified

oh I agree Baz, but this is just one area and 5 blocks, there must be thousand upon thousands in danger elsewhere
So it's 5 tower blocks now!
Camden Council says people in flats in five towers on the Chalcots estate will be moved for "urgent fire safety works" - and it is "block-booking hotels".

My sis just phoned me to tell me this - moving all these people into leisure centres? What the hell are they going to do with everyone because there's going to be huge numbers involved - more and more as they test more buildings I believe.
The keep mentioning the Hotpoint fridge freezer model... anyone sniff a whiff of trying to shift part of the blame?

and this woman talking at the moment says it not the cladding - it's gas pipes and fire doors not up to spec?

I can't sleep, and am so 'worked up' at the moment. a conglomeration of things though
I just had to come back on here and pick out what a brilliant post Kaffs just made

Today's report says 4 blocks.
Why can't the media ever get these things right?
It looks like a logistical nightmare, heaven knows where they'll put them all. The London Assembly should be co-ordinating the various boroughs, but where Has Citizen Khan disappeared to?....Nowhere to be seen.....must be waiting for someone to write another set of platitudes

Yep!.....pipes left without fireproof cladding, firedoors not fitting properly and residents drilling holes in walls they shouldn't have touched....a right conglom of errors

Yes , especially as most of the boroughs/councils are Labour led ....and have been for years ...
Cuts to Labour authorities and five times higher than Conservative councils, I bet Camden Council havn't a 279 billion surplus like K&C. Not that there is any excuse for poor work and living conditions but with a 279 billion surplus there's absolutely no excuse why Grenfell tower was prettied up with cheaper cladding. Although this could have been clarified last year if the Conservatives hadn't voted the fit for habitation bill down.

Built under labour ....ruled by Labour for years before the Tories came to power ....I swear if there was an earthquake in Australia these days it would somehow be deemed the Conservatives fault
