it looks like he is gonna be now Kaffy, thanks xxxx

has been a horrible month or so though..   not knowing properly what is wrong with him, but we took him to a doggy wizard today (Canine Orthopaedic & Neurology Surgeon), he was all fasted & ready to have more tests under anaesthetic but we brought him home again cos the wizard thinks it might actually be a slipped disc.

We have to put him in a crate for 3 weeks... only allowing him out for toilet breaks (he is gonna hate it)..   if he's no better then he may have to have MRI's & surgery..  but, the wizardy vet has said he is confident that there is a 99% chance that whatever it is can be fixed!

I can pull myself together a bit now.

Has been a right mare with the kitten as well..   cos trying to keep the dog from getting excited we have been keeping them separate.

I'm afraid we are gonna be really mean..   when we have put his crate together & got him in it we are gonna give the kitten full run of the house..      she will mock him like he is an animal at the zoo

he's having none of it..   its fab as well..  a proper doggy den.. it has a comfy padded fleece liner, his fave teddy "Sprocket" is in there..   there were a couple of dog biscuits in there.. but the sod managed to get those out & then back out quickly...

What are his symptoms ?

he's a 7 year old Cairn Terrier (so about middle aged)..   about 10 weeks ago I noticed a really subtle hobble when out on a walk..   it was dead subtle..   then gradually it got worse (at times)..   a couple of visits to the vets, an extreme diet (has gone from 17kg to his target weight of 13.5kg), metacam (NSAID), and xrays later & he is still getting worse.   He can no longer get up & down stairs, has trouble getting up, has trouble sitting down, he limps intermittently, and jumps up like he's been hit by a cattle prod all of a sudden, basically its like he got old overnight.

It might not be a slipped disc, the initial xrays show some Spondylosis of the lower spine (but the spinal expert said that is not significant).     There is a chance it could be discospondylisis (spinal bone infection), in which case they will give him antibiotics, or steroid treatable meningitis (they will give him steroids), or...  a very very slim chance it could be a tumour (in which case he will operate apparently).

Even if its a disc, he still might need surgery...   but the specialist wants to try this conservative approach first...

Still struggling to get him in the bloody crate though
