at the beginning of the run of the show, Alex claimed she couldn't change her sheets/duvet as she'd never done it before. When questioned by the rest of them how she'd managed to do it when she first lived alone and how long it took her to change them, she replied something close to a 8/9 months and only because her mother had done it They were apparently black so you couldn't tell they were dirty.
