Not to mention British Bulldog on the netball court and big fights in the middle!

Ahh British Bulldog!

We used to play a game called What's the time Mr Wolf...it was meant to be a guessing game but really it was just an excuse for kids to chase each other and attack them and lots of mock hysterical screaming Laugh
Leccy
We played british Bulldog, Kerby, What Time Is It Mt Wolf, and many more...

We'd spend hours down the river at the Seven Acres and run across the 'pipe bridge'...no fear of sewage or falling off the bridge.

My younger sister and I used to drop sheets down from the top bunk and make a den on the bottom one.

Another favourite was zipping sleeping bags up, then standing up and putting them over our heads so only our feet were showing...we called that game 'bump in the dark' then slide down the stairs in them, it would always end in tears Laugh

My Parents couldn't afford much when we were young so we had to utilise what we could and use our imaginations...what fun we had, the simple things. None of this one player video game stuff, we played together and shared.

I remember getting our first computer. It was an Acorn Electron and to load the classic Spade Invaders game took about half an hour in the tape deck....Laugh

We used to play a version of pooh sticks on the roundabout in the swing park.

You'd drop a stick, lie down on the roundabout, get another kid to spin it till you were going a squllion miles an hour...then you'd have to half hang off, headfirst... and try to pick the stick back up. If you got a big lad to spin it you almost stuck to it with the centrifugal force Laugh

Our "big slide" (there was a little one too for the babies) was so high it had a cage at the top to stop you falling...we used to climb out and sit on top of the cage...you could see the whole town (it seemed like) from up there...and if you fell...straight onto lovely concrete complete with broken bottles Big Grin Ahhhh.

lol you should have seen me lately at colchester zoo...they have a rope bridge you have to cross. although i wasn't scared of falling i still didn't like being so high up so i was clinging to the side the whole way...took me like 10 mins Laugh

No..it was kind of like cats cradles with legs.

I think I know what you mean, we had a version with a circular piece of string or an elastic band that we used to wrap round our fingers and make cats cradles...Thumbs Up

Googled and found this......

French Elastic or French Skipping

We play this game with a really long piece of elastic, about 2cm wide and 3 metres in length. We tie the ends of the elastic together to make a loop.

Two children stand inside the loop so they are stretching it relatively taut around their ankles. A third person performs a series of hops and jumps, chanting appropriate rhymes. When finished, the height of the elastic is raised to knees, then thighs, then waist.

Start with left foot inside the elastic loop and right foot just outside. Jump over to to the other side so right foot is inside the loop and left foot is outside.

Here is one of the rhymes we say:

'Chocolate cake, when you bake,
How many minutes will you take?
One, two, three, four.'

On ONE: jump up and land with left foot outside the elastic loop and your right foot inside.
On TWO: jump up and land with both feet together inside the elastic loop.
On THREE: jump up and land with both feet outside the elastic loop.
On Four: jump up and land sideways to the elastic, with your left foot on top of the back elastic and your right foot ahead (in front) of the front elastic.

If the current player fails to execute the correct jump their turn is over and play passes to one of the people inside the circle of elastic, who then tries to out do the previous player.

did anyone else used to play 'Kingy' ? it may be called different things in different areas, you had to throw a tennis ball at someone to 'tig' them, then they were 'it'. You started off all stood in a ring with toes touching your mates' either side of you, so you made a sealed circle, you then bounced the tennis ball in side and you had to flip it by swivelling on your toes and hitting it with your ankles - like the flippers on a pin-ball machine - between someone else's legs..then they were on...
