not good news
thats not true, they have held seats on several metropolitan county councils across the pennines.
A bunch of racists and thugs.
The public have spoken. You can hate the BNP all you want, but ultimately the people to blame for them being in power are the voters.

I agree but then I think that about new labour as well.

thats geet wilders (sp?) party and whilst it is right wing support for his party is just support for him and his freedom of speech campaign.
he was the maker of the film fitna (available in dutch or english) that the dutch government tried to block out of fear of a denmark style backlash, , support for him is based on that only, because everyone agreed that it was only banned to appease the islamic extremists.
the film was recently shown in the uk parliament but mr wilders was barred from entering the country to face questions about it.

New labour can also take some of the blame, if they hadn't got us into this mess, the BNP wouldn't be getting in now! I loathe the BNP BTW, but people are getting pissed off with immigration and such....

I blame all the bent politicians from the 3 main parties.
It's tragic that it's come to this.

If the main stream parties do not let people even discuss matters that they are their concerned about. Then it is hardly surprising that some will migrate to a party that appears to give them a voice.
All joking aside, the people who vote BNP are very stupid. Simples.

I think that's a good point. We really need to have a sensible discussion about immigration, globalisation and economic protectionism as well as other issues.
People wouldn't be voting for the BNP if they weren't really hacked off and feeling like they weren't being heard.
The BNP are then left with a clear field to spout the kind of dininformation and propaganda without being challenged

yes as long as you are not black, asian, indian polish etc etc
I'm still struggling to undertand what the connection is between immigration and the fact that our own politicians have ripped us off with false expenses claims!
The BNP didn't even dare to deliver leaflets round my way
Pity - I'd have loved to have sent it back to HQ smeared in dog poo.

I wouldn't worry too much. One county seat isn't the sweeping victory they were hoping for. We can all calm down.

I don't believe that the majority of the people who have voted for them know anything about what they stand for.
They hear a few buzzwords and think that'll do.
Well done Burnley, let the region down why don't you...
Terrible news .

No we didn't get one from them - or maybe there was one in the whole pile of rubbish that came through the door in one hit.
It went straight into the recycle bin so I'm not sure.
We didn't get one door knocker politico though either.
Living on a large sink estate as forgotten people can have it's advantages
fitna for those who want to watch
surely its better to watch it to see what the fuss was about and why all the support.

I know. But at least it's only one it could have been a lot worse. I thought they were going to sweep the country. Thank god people can see through them.

*Tars Bolton with the same brush*
Seriously, don't worry about it hun, I don't automatically assume that anyone who votes for them is a rabid racist.
Itend to agree with Leccy that people hear a couple of spin doctored simplistic quotes and vote without really understanding what they stand for.
Course that could be true of voters for a lot of the parties :shrugs

I live in a less fashionable bit of my city, between the centre and the bay. But we've a long history of multiculturalism and tolerance, so I imagine the BNP didn't think it was worth bothering with us..
I agree with Devil and Cosmo, that the BNP's success can be put at the door of the three main parties
