Yay OHG! It was based on an Arthur C Clark novel.
star wars is ok but its more fantasy than science fiction,
I like the type of science fiction that COULD happen and has realisim,
like 2001 and 2010 and 20021, and the first Aliens movie,
where they dont have huge fireballs in space and spaceships that zoom past making a noise etc etc, cause thats just bollix, and spoils the movie for me,

Star Wars will always be king, but if fightening is what your after then Alien is brilliant.

yeah I read a lot of old Arthurs stuff, the original was called the sentinel I believe, bloody excellent story,
love the science fiction me, but it has to be "nuts n bolts stuff" stuff we know could be done etc, sort of "near future" if ya get me,

Hmmn.. well space is a vacuum there would be no noise etc, that is what made 2001 al the more realistic.

Not sure, nothing was ever shown, just bloody atmospheric, with loud bangings in the doors etc...scared the bejubus out of me.
Much more so than so many gorefests that came later.
Blood and guts doesn't make a film.

Bladerunner is one of my all-time faves... and 2001 which was conceptually stunning in it's time. I saw another surprisingly good one last year... a remake with George Clooney in it (calm down everyone) where he is on a spaceship and being haunted by his dead wife or something... anyone remember that?

It was Julie Harris and Claire Bloom. And yes, I still find it far more scary than a lot of the OTT special effects films.
never seen it...or heard of it, will check it out
