I have been thinking about starting a thread regarding the meaning of WAG and the suggestion that it can help to launch a successful media career. Obviously, marrying a top footballer will have indirectly provided a comfortable way of life in the past... but nowadays the personal opportunities seem vast.

I think it might be more complex than that - but i do see plenty of recent evidence suggesting top footballers are driven by lust - rather than love. Also, there does appear to be an active scene consisting of footballers and glamour models meeting at exclusive night spots.

The article doesn't offer a specific reason for the break-up. With her debut record out next month perhaps her management believe she will be more marketable single.
*I didn't realise Nicola was so much older than Simon.
"WAG" was originally coined to describe "wives and girlfriends" of the England players at a tournament but now just seems to have got a life of its own as a "profession"
