...there will be 'video clips' on the website ..........

Senior Endemol staff have said that Big Brother live feed will not return for the new series, as the show is targeting ‘casual viewers’.

Acccording to Broadcast, the company has used its move to Channel 5 to rejuvenate the format, and will be borrowing elements from the emerging slew of ‘scripted reality’ programming to ensure it remains current.

As a result, the live feed has been dropped in favour of video clips, which will be available via mobile.

Creative director Gavin Henderson said it “felt more appropriate” to allow viewers to interact with the show via their phones, while Endemol UK chief executive Tim Hincks added: “Whereas before it was all about live streaming, now it’s about how viewers engage with it via social media.”

Changes will also be made to the show’s editing, with staff adopting new techniques to ‘extend the appeal’ of Big Brother beyond its hardcore fanbase.

Henderson commented: “Big Brother does what it does extremely well but it isn’t a TOWIE or a Made In Chelsea. But the humour, the awareness of the manipulation that the viewers have of those shows, as well as their use of music are things we need to note.

“The combination of relying on actuality in real time and an analytical voiceover with date stamps made it quite a loyal watch and not the kind of thing a casual viewer would be invited to come to.”

He continued: “But by cutting it differently, adjusting the pace and adding more signposting gives people permission not to have to watch it for three months religiously.

“We will jump into scenes later, signpost more and use music beds where appropriate.”

The 24-hour live feed is considered a core element of the format by long-time viewers, who will undoubtedly be angry with the decision. It was dropped by Channel 4 before the tenth run in 2009, which went on to become the least watched main series to date. Channel 5 is yet to comment.

Have you seen BB USA? They make it unbelievably corny with the way they edit it. Dramatic Music (during an argument) slow motion walking away (after an arguement), cheery music during the 'fun times' etc.

Well done Channel 5.

Nooooo!   I haven't seen it. But that sounds SO unbelievably awful!

It's supposed to be REALITY TV!

Not if you don't watch it

I might make my own 'Big Brother TV Show' and call it 'Rawky's Rampant Room' and it will have all the Live Feed you could want.

Oh god! It's worse than I thought!

I'm not going to be able to watch then. I've attempted watching TOWIE...... it doesn't work for me at all, because I know it's manipulated I can't take one word of it seriously and I can't see any point to engaging with it. The so called "humour" is not enough compensation for it being unreal.

What a shame. I had quite high hopes when I saw the pictures of the house.

Ducky

worra lorra shoite.

Ah well.. probs won't get hooked then, which might not be a bad thing.

I never watched Towie, but I did love Made In Chelsea, but this totally defeats the whole idea of Big Brother surely?

Is anyone on the Digital Spy forums? Might be an idea to see who's attending the Live Launch and for them to organise a big group of them to chant "Bring Back Live Feed" or "Channel 5, you suck!"

Rawky-Roo

well that's it for me then ..I watch TOWIE and Made In Chelsea and that's enough  scripted reality TV for me. .am not watching TOWIBB as well .

BORING.. BB is a gonna....  C5 could have resurrected it in its original form. .they choose copy cat TV the lazy buggers.. pah.. :disap:

mind you Jedward being in it was the first put off, this just finishes it. .am not one for watching video clips. .I find that boring if it's anything more than a quick info clip for something or other not a whole bleeding show and it's not what my PC is for. . my telly is for watching Telly things that's why is has a biggish screen, unlike my PC .

If they are not careful they will be regretting unvaluing the hardcore fanbase..     at least it has a hardcore fanbase...    though if this is going to be as bad as it sounds, it won't have one for long

Dirtyprettygirlthing

  I'm fuming!!

What is the point of it?  How can they call it reality tv when you get the odd video clip to watch.

And I bet you have to pay for that

Best I don't spout anymore, I could very well get the ban stick.

"This year, we have decided to focus on the nightly highlights show and on directly engaging with the show's viewers through social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and specially created iPhone, iPad and Android apps.

"The aim is to reflect the habits of our audience today and we believe that prioritising social media is the way to get people involved in the show."

^ This means that they are excluding me, as I don't have an iPhone, iPad, Facebook or Android device.

I might watch the launch out of curiosity, but all my hopes for this Big Brother are pretty much dashed now.

Ditto Katerina.

Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing

So, they're quite happy to have sliced off the largest chunk of their potential audience in favour of this so called 'casual viewer' who's not likely to watch/connect to much of the programme.

They really are too stupid for words.

Well I have two words....LEAD BALLOON!

am disgusted there is no live feed, BB as we know it is no more, I will probably watch but no way will | vote and that is where c5 will come unstuck as rarely does the casual viewer vote, they are aiming at the young trendy youth and totally ignoring the loyal fan base, heck even the sponsor is for acne cream, thanks for nothing ch 5

jessejay

I didn't realise there was no live coverage what so ever. I mean ffs even when C4 cut the 24/7 live feed, they at least still had a few hours of live coverage on a night. Channel 5 are having none! meaning they can edit the highlights shows to manipulate viewers however much they want.

They've totally ruined the concept of the show. They could have an hour of friggin rehearsals every day and we'd be none the wiser. It's a joke, they've ruined it.
