If Titfer wants to express an opinion on it then don't tell him to "leave it" Jale. She's really trying to keep him under.
I may have misunderstood that exchange, but I thought she was trying to stop him from going outside and getting involved in the argument.
If that is the case, I'd consider it sound advice. Many of them are scared of Helen - justifiably, IMO - and try to keep away from her when she's off on one.
Ahh, see I thought they were all just musing over what was going on outside and Titfer decided to give his point of view. Jale had just had her say and she seemed to want to hold court.

I got it wrong: it sounds like Jale thought it wasn't worth the energy to discuss the argument and/or get involved.
