Just in case anyone asks (I do believe in Education, Education, Education)

a damp squib  (British & Australian)

an event which people think will be exciting but which is disappointing when it happens

Usage notes: A squib is a type of firework (= a small container filled with chemicals which explodes to produce bright lights and loud noises)and if it becomes wet, it will not explode.

Thank you! I honestly was wondering what one was

I genuinely nearly got hit once by a mis-firing squib at a fireworks display in Malta.

They do love a firework over there

There's a Saint's day (sometimes more than 1) - cue fireworks - every night somewhere on that island

That's right. It was in the build-up to Santa Maria in Mosta: they have fireworks and other celebrations every night of the week leading up to it.

It's great fun, but it does make you appreciate Health & Safety.

You should try Chinese New Year in Singapore

The streets are red from spent bangers, the hang them from strings from windows and shop doors.... and it last for two weeks solid. There's no sleep and it sounds like they stick them in tin's at night. It's wild.

Yeah, they're a bit cavalier out there so it's always best to stand well back and admire from afar.  Preferably from across the bay !

Big Brother 2014â€ēs Armageddon twist kicked off tonight with a shock eviction followed by three new housemates and a double twist!

If you weren’t able to watch live but don’t want to be left out of what happened, let us recapâ€Ķ

The fast paced started with a 15 minute recap of the past 24 hours of house action(!) before host Emma Willis took over.

Big Brother gathered the housemates and announced the results of the weekend’s nominations, with Ash Harrison, Ashleigh Coyle and Marlon Wallen getting the most votes.

But with the most nominations overall – attracting votes from all of Helen Wood, Winston Showan, Christopher Hall, Chris R Wright, Mark Byron, Kimberly Kisselovich and Steven Goode. –  Marlon was kicked out as Big Brother dropped its biggest bombshell: He would be evicted then and there.

Speaking to Emma after his exit, Marlon said he wasn’t “glad” to be out but was “happy”, whatever that means.

“It was a hard week,” he added.

Back in the house and Big Brother revealed that ALL of the current housemates – minus finalist Helen Wood – face eviction this week.

Later, three new housemates entered into a secret room.

They were  29-year-old musical theatre star Zoe Birkett from Durham,  31-year-old stripper Biannca Lake and 22-year-old property manager Pavandeep Paul.

Big Brother then revealed the new trio to the current housemates, before playing their VTs to both us viewers and the housemates.

Meanwhile, in the Diary Room, the newbies were told that THEY had the Power and would decide the outcome of the eviction on Friday night, unknown to the current group of housemates who think the public are voting.

But in one final twist, host Emma announced that the new housemates were also at risk as one of them will also be kicked out on Friday.

Us viewers will be voting throughout the week for our favourite and the one new housemate with the fewest votes will also leave on Friday night.

PHEW!
