Over the last week or so there's been a scam where it looks as if you've received an email supposedly from yourself. The email is titled Document1 or Document2, has no message, and has a zip file attached called Document1.zip or Document2.zip

If you get such an email do not open the zipped file as it contains a Dridex banking trojan or even worse Lock ransomware.

I did receive such an email on the 17th but it went straight to my spam folder so I've only just found it.

Thanks El ....it's hard keeping up with them all

It is. I think the scam email above is more likely to be sent to businesses rather than private individuals but it's the first time I've been targeted by ransomware which is a lot more serious than trojan viruses and phishing emails. With ransomware, the files on your computer get hijacked and you can't open them. You get a demand to pay a ranson to get access to the files. Typically the ranson has to be paid in bitcoins. Even if you pay and get access to your files, it's known that some files may have been corrupted in the process so are useless. That's why it's important to keep backups of your files.

My motto is if I've not asked for an email I never open it Plus even if I recognise the company etc. I never go to their website directly from email ....
