Because Free-of-Thinking, the bookies reflect money placed by punters and those same punters vote on the phone and reflect the opinions of others that vote. The correlation is not exact but more often than not they are right.

Bookmakers reflect the opinion of those who have the most money to waste on betting as well as - in general - those who bet. They may well waste their money on eviction votes as well, but then so do many others who don't bet at all.

They will 'change horses' all the time as the fashion changes, as things change in the house. Maybe they can finally get in right just before an eviction, unless it's close or quite a few HMs are up. I always thought Hira was the most likely to be evicted last week, but she wasn't always the most favoured in the the betting. People who bet are really guessing what the general opinion of the audience is. Another thing they can't predict is tactical voting (or lack of) and whether people will switch their allegiance to a particular HM.

What does shortening and lengthening mean, in betting terminology?

Shortening means the odds increase, lengthening means they decrease. On Oddschecker if the odds are in blue that means increse, red means decrease.

OK, what does odds increase and odds decrease mean?

For those like me who don't understand betting stuff at all, how can we tell which is best and which is worst?

Increase means they go up, decrease means they go down.

Sophie has dropped down to second on Oddschecker level with Siavash Eeker.
