Bernard Matthews has died at the age of 80.

The turkey tycoon passed away at his home in Great Witchinham, Norwich at 2pm yesterday, the Norwich Evening News confirmed.

Matthews founded the Bernard Matthews company in 1950 and rose to prominence with the "Bootiful" catchphrase he used in his TV advertisements.

Paying tribute, Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk
Richard Jewson said: "He was a fantastic servant to Norfolk."

Matthews was given a CBE in 1992 and later appointed CVO, both for his contribution to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme.
