Good morning everyone

Fairly sunny here and should be dry during the daytime, though there might be a bit of light rain this afternoon.

Last Friday I made a post about Jack Churchill being the first person to surf the Severn Bore and mentioned his very unusual milirary career in WW2.

Then on Sunday I watched The Antiques Roadshow and by an extraordinary coincidence an item used by him in WW2 was shown.

The item starts at 15.50

Good morning everyone, how interesting about Jack Churchill and that an item used by him should come up on the Antiques Road Show just after you mentioned him EL.  I think we have similar weather down here to yours.

Oh dear Summer   finding yourself in the Darnies instead of at the bus stop

Have a good day everyone

A couple of weeks ago one of my clients paid me in cash. This morning I went to the local Co-op and used one of the notes to pay for my purchases. I apologised to the till operators as I knew that the note was unusual. I've been to the Co-op many times and the staff know me and I know them. It would have been harder to use the note in shops where they didn't know me.

As it was, the operator had to take the note to the manager for him to double check it. It was fine as I thought and after I paid for my purchases I had a chat with him about forgeries and money laundering. He's been at the local Co-op for 18 months and it was only the third time that someone had used one of these:

I think that's the largest note done by the Bank of England in general circulation though I think the Scottish banks have ÂĢ100 notes.

A puppet is being investigated by authorities in Egypt over claims it's behind a terror plot. Abla Fahita appeared in an internet ad for the mobile phone operator Vodafone. Authorities are investigating claims the ad had secret messages about a bomb plot. The fate of the puppet has caused waves on social media. Mukul Devichand from the social media series BBC Trending has secured an exclusive interview with Abla Fahita herself.

The world has gone mad!

I've had ÂĢ50 notes in the past, but only from the bank when I was drawing large sums to pay for a large purchase. I don't see many people using them on a day to day basis though.

Yogi, I agree that the world has gone mad. I had thought about putting a smiley on my post but I felt putting the mad one on was making light of something which is a sad reflection of the state of affairs in Egypt.

When I bought my first pc I paid for it in cash as those were the days a top one would cost some ÂĢ2,000. My credit card limit wasn't high enough and if I had paid by cheque I wouldn't have been able to get the pc until my cheque was cleared. So for the best part of a week I had ÂĢ2,000 in ÂĢ50 notes in my wallet (and kept a very close guard over the wallet).

That would have made me so nervous walking about with that much cash EL.  I am not sure I have even seen a ÂĢ50 note.

Yogi I hope your shopping trip with OK.

I'd have been a nervous wreck, too.

Shopping trip went well, as I ended up going on my own.

I'm cooking, no, microwaving an m&s pad Thai for tea, and baking some garlic bread. Anyone fancy sharing?

It saved us bickering about what to put into the trolley.

That sounds delicious! We had homemade chicken curry and rice for tea.

Good morning all. Weather is damp and dismal atm.

Not sure what I'm doing today. I need to check and see if I am getting any visitors, before I plan anything.

Do you remember I mentioned buying some new tropical fish for my tank? Well, it has been a bit of a disaster. The day after they went into the tank, one by one, the Cardinal tetras started dying off. Then my original fish followed and finally the black tetras. I am now left with one fish, and expect it to die too. Not sure what happened, but I suspect one of the new fish was poorly and infected the others. If/when the last one dies, I need to decontaminate the tank and start from scratch.

Love to Moonie and Skylark.

Have a good day everyone.

I watched episode 2 of death comes to Pemberley and got so engrossed that I didn't even notice bramble leave the room!

is it good? I never got around to watching it.

I'm watching the CBB eviction and praying that Luisa leaves - she's horrible!

Isn't she just?  She loves a good argument that one, if there's none around she has a good go at starting one and then stirring the pot.

It's a beautiful morning here, if you didn't know better you would think Spring was just around the corner.

have a great day everyone

You should also go back to where you bought the fish Yogi and complain.  They may be infecting loads of tanks with diseased fish.

It is a really reputable shop, Squiggle, my son has used it lots of times. There were no outward signs of illness when I got them, and no signs of disease when they died. There is also a possibility that some sort of bacteria developed in my tank, which killed them off. I think I have just been unlucky.

We are agreed on Luisa. I couldn't stand her when she was in The Apprentice and I dislike her even more in CBB.

Yogi, I'm sorry to hear of the fish apocalypse

I'm back from my client meeting. There wasn't enough time first thing to say but the client was the curate who used to be at our church. The rectory at her new church is next to the church there and it's only slightly further away from my house compared to the distance from my house to my church. So as it was a nice morning I walked there and back. 17 minutes to walk there compared to 15 minutes to my church. It was nice to see her and her husband as I hadn't seen them since they left. I have their tax returns to do and will see them again next Saturday for them to sign off their returns.

She's getting accustomed to her new benefice as she looks after 7 small countryside churches and she's always lived in town until now. The fields on either side of the main road are under water due to all the rain we've had. That's not surprising as the road is not that far from the river. The saddest part was by the Twigworth school (which is now closed) as there were some cows huddled together on the small part of the field right by the school on the bit of the field which wasn't under water. I could see a couple of men (presumably farm workers) standing at the gate and I guess that they were either monitoring the cattle or waiting for some vehicle to come and take the cows else where.

It seems that in recent years in South Korea, babies are being given names which are easy to pronounce in English.

The most popular boy's name in the last 5 years is Min-jun. (The article doesn't say if this is a shortening of Minor-junior).

The most popular girl's name in the last 5 years is So-young. (I don't know if as girls get renamed Notso-young etc )

Yogi I thought of you when I saw this picture (the dogs being labs or retrievers)

Love it! Gorgeous lab pups, and the one on the right could have been Harvey when he was a pup, that was the sort of daft thing he would have done.

I'm glad you were able to enjoy a nice walk, El.

Poor cows though. Animals must wonder what on earth is going on with the bonkers weather we have been having.

evening all

Sorry I haven't been around before now, work was busy today.
I'm bathed, fed, in my pj's and had a glass of wine

I hope you all had a lovely day

Yogi, the exact same thing happened to our fish tank they were tetras & barbs etc.
we took the dead fish back to where we bought them and the chap offered to replace them for free, but when we went to the tank to get them we found a pile of dead fish on the floor! Clearly that one batch were diseased.
We refused a replacement of another kind, got our money back and left the shop. It was a huge shame because the shop had a brilliant reputation and I guess just got unlucky with that batch.
We only had 1 cherry barb left in the bi-orb, and mr summer didn't want to add any new fish in case the water was contaminated. The little fish lasted 2 years!
After he passed away, mr summer had already lost heart and didn't start again, the tank sits empty in our garage now. Shame, it was lovely, and all that hard work in the first place wasted

Does your son know yet..?
