Isn't it strange how you think of something in your head and when you type it out it doesn't work out right?

Starting with- favourite film you saw this year...

I haven't been to the cinema for years Sweet

Last time I went to the cinema was to see "just Like Heaven", which came out in 2005/6.

can't remember when I last went - oh yes somebody from work dragged me to  a twilight one - it was awful - fancied seeing Black swan and the new Butler one

Evening Ros, how are you?

Read any good crime thrillers recently?

yogiiiiiiiiii yes a few on the kindle - so handy  just reading Katherine Johns ATM and recently a few by Tom Ellis

I'll take a note of those names. I've been reading some by Shirley Wells on my Kindle app and enjoyed them. Not as gory or graphic as Val McDermid but quite good.

Me too, I read the first page and can tell whether I'll like it. I've  downloaded a sample of a Katherine John book called, Without Trace.

An unusual news story on my local news website. It's miles away from where I live but still alarming

OVERFLOWING recycling banks at Tesco in Quedgeley have had to be closed, cordoned off and are being patrolled by security guards amid fears of a massive disaster.

The banks are right next to the supermarket’s petrol station and were overflowing to such an extent on Boxing Day that it looked more akin to “Helmand Province”, according to one user.

Now, people are being turned away and the banks might be shut for good to avoid the real possibility of what would be an enormous explosion and fire if a lit flame were to go anywhere near the piles of rubbish.

Tesco said the issue has been building up in recent weeks thanks to irresponsible people fly-tipping all sorts of inappropriate waste at the site.

Customers are being told that the banks will be shut for the foreseeable future and possibly removed after the Boxing Day pile-up.

One staff member said: “If a match had been dropped, the whole store could have been up in flames.”

One customer, who tried to take extra recycling built up over the festive break to the banks on Tuesday, said: “They are cordoned off, they’ve put cones all around them and a security man is making sure no-one goes near them, they’re not letting anyone in there.

“I personally have got a lot of stuff to recycle and I don’t really want to have to take it all to the tip, but I’m not sure what the alternative is.

“A lot of people will have the same problem, there will be all sorts of extra stuff that they want to get rid of properly.”

Twitter user Shane Uzzell posted a picture of the recycling banks - which are barely visible under a mountain of overflowing rubbish - on Boxing Day.

But Tesco said the issue has been building up for a while and simply came to a head on that afternoon.

A spokesman said: “We know how much local residents in Quedgeley value the recycling facilities we provide.

“However, in recent weeks we’ve had a problem with fly-tipping at the site.

“We took the precaution of closing the recycling facility, which is close to our petrol station, as the build-up of rubbish presented a fire risk.

“We’re working with our recycling contractors to resolve this issue as quickly as possible, and in the meantime would ask our customers to recycle elsewhere.”

El Loro

Good morning everyone, it's chucking it down here and blowing a hooley.

I wonder why they haven't taken the recycling away to the main centre for dealing with it EL, do you think it's because of the holiday period?  You do hear tales of it all ending up in landfill, you don't know what to believe.

Have a good day everyone.

squiggle
Good morning I'm having a long lay in, and can hear rain on the windows.

El, fab new year owl

The recycling situation is worrying, and fly tipping is becoming more common. Why can't people compact their recycling tighter, and just take it to the tip?
We has loads extra after Boxing Day, but luckily our recycling bins were emptied soon after, but i would have happily taken mine to the tip.

No disturbances in the night from Bramble, she must be feeling better no sign of mr summer yet though, he must be feeling rotten.

What are everyone's plans for today?
~Sparkling Summer~

Summer, I'm pleased that Bramble seems to have recovered

I rang my brother this morning to wish him a happy New Year. I had rung him on Sunday evening to warn him about that Miss Marple programme as I knew he would have recorded it. On Monday or yesterday he mentioned my warning to a friend of his. She said that she had read Endless Night and it was one of the two Agatha Christie books she really disliked and therefore had decided not to watch the programme.

He also mentioned that he's arranged to get a redeployment form from the council to see if there is any potential for alternative employment there.

El Loro

Happy New Year everyone.

Summer, I'm glad Bramble seems better and hope Mr Summer's migraine eases soon.

My middle and youngest sons and their partners are coming over later. Eldest son is working. A reasonably low key, family dinner is planned.

Hope you all have a nice day, however you are spending it.

El, fly tipping seems to be a big problem In most areas. There are a couple of spots in the country roads around us, where people just dump their rubbish. I don't understand why they can't drive to the tip instead of driving out into the countryside to dump it!

Off to get organised, catch up later.
