Cowardy custard is a term used by children to taunt other children for being easily scared. It's a bit of a play on words as custard is yellow and calling someone yellow is accusing them of being a coward.

The term predates the Noel Coward revue. For instance in J M Barrie's original 1904 play "Peter Pan or the boy who would not grow up", Mr Darling at one point teases his wife with "Cowardy, cowardy custard".

Ah, I didn't remember the Peter Pan reference but guessed about the yellow/custard/coward connection.

Oh that's charming EL, Mr Darling teasing his wife   As kids I remember the boys calling each yellow belly too, same thing I suppose.

A la Poirot?

 Oui!

I love Poirot. I once spent a whole weekend watching Poirot DVDs and found myself thinking in his heavily accented English.

You are brave Yogi

Skylark, the phone companies who are implementing 4g across the country will have to arrange that for any televisions with Freeview which are affected by the 4g signals the householders will have filters fitted for them to stop the interference. It is the phone companies which will have to carry the cost of this - the householders won't have to pay anything.

There's a company set up to deal with this. They've got a website with info on it.

As said i am on laptop, terrible signal, plus we got leaflet saying work in the area for 4g, which interferes with freeview too. So i sigh !

It is so frustrating when your internet is playing up. Did they give you any idea how long they will be working on it?

Edit: oops, it's your freeview that is being affected by the 4G work?

That site does say "We are sending postcards to all households in areas that may experience disruption to their Freeview due to 4G at 800 MHz. The large majority of people who receive a postcard will not notice any difference in their Freeview services once 4G at 800 MHz is launched. If you live in an area we believe is more likely to experience disruption, we will send you a free filter in advance of masts being switched on as well"

I'm back.

I know what you mean about Emmerdale's Rhona storyline. None of it rings true.
