Its dull and very cool here. We are promised heavy rain. Goodbye summer

The curate's last service at our church this morning before she becomes the vicar at a group of countryside churches just down the road from me.

The church was crowded as people had come to say goodbye and it was also a triple baptism.

The first names of the babies were ones I hadn't come across as Christian names before, Flynn, Peyton and Reigan (3 separate families).

It started raining as I went to church, it's still raining and even if it stops, there's more to come here, Yellow warning now issued - 1 to 3 inches of rain expected by the end of tomorrow.

It's not a farewell for me as the curate is concerned as I will continue to see her from time to time as I do her tax return.

 Put away that crystal ball!

Re squiggle's sighting of a hobby or falcon yesterday I saw this on my local news website:

A TINY bird from China has been discovered wandering around a garden.

The diminutive, brightly coloured bird was found by a woman in her back garden in Bourton-on-the-Water. Realising its rarity, she contacted experts at nearby Birdland who identified it as a male Chinese painted quail.

Although the bird is native to south east Asia and parts of Australia, it is also popular with birdkeepers and it is thought it may have escaped from a private aviary.

The quail is now being looked after at Birdland's finch aviary, where he is settling in well.

Aww, it's tiny. I'm sure they'll take good care of it at the bird sanctuary.
