~Sparkling Summer~

Good morning everyone

Cloudy here, some rain is forecast today. Tomorrow is forecast to be hot but only for the one day. Needless to say the Express headlines this with 95c heatwave and thousands could die. The Express is known for its obsession with the weather with apocalyptic stories and a year ago a blogger by the name of Scott Bryan did an analysis of their headlines and comparing them with what the Met Office had to say,

Good morning everyone.  I love this owl looks like he has insomnia

It's ever so humid here, very tiring.  Hope it's fresher where you are.

Lucky Summer on the way to the Lake District.  I love the Lake District, and Ava a toddler now, doesn't seem 5 minutes since she was born does it?  Have a great time

During the episode, a tale from Afghanistan is narrated. It's called The Silver on the Hearth (which is the title of the episode). You can read the story here:

I'll try to catch up with it later, El.

Did you rush out and milk the cow to save going to the shops?

Just as well it wasn't a bull.

No, it looked like a youngster, so no milk available.

My dad used to take over the running of his friend's farm once a year, so the farmer could go on holiday.  My late brother and I loved staying at the farm and one of my favourite things was collecting chilled, fresh milk from the milking parlour to put on my cereal. It was so deliciously creamy. Happy days!

One of my godparents was a farmer who lived locally. I remember when I was young going with my father and my brother to visit him once but my memory of him was that he wasn't pleased to see us and we didn't stay very long. Apart from when I was a baby I don't think I ever saw him. I have no idea why my parents chose him as a godparent.

Aww that's sad, El. I would say it was his loss.

Apart from when I was a baby I never met my godmother. She was a friend of my mother and didn't libe locally. She did keep in touch with my mother over the years until she passed away.

The one godparent I did see many times was my other godfather. He lived in London but would visit us quite often. When we were young we knew that he would come with a bag of sweets for us. He was a friend of my father and they were both into classical music so much of the time he was visitng they would talk about music and listen to records (and in later years tapes). He was a teacher, By the time I grew up I found him somewhat boring as by then he only came to talk music with my father. When my brother first got a job in London, my godfather, who had a couple of properties which he let, let him a room at probably a low level for some time until my brother had saved enough to get a deposit on a flat.

It was good of him to help out your brother out with renting a property.

That's good  My day was okay fankoo

We used to have Virgin boxes in our (now) spare rooms but got rid of them when our sons moved out. The TVs in the rooms have freeview built in and we finally got them connected up today. I can watch the new UK Drama channel now, as we don't get it on Virgin.

Moonie, I see in the Darnie thread that you have a wasp nest. Have they been coming into the house? I have a mild allergic reaction to wasp stings so I would freak if there was a nest near my house.

Yep, still have Eurosport 1 & 2 Yogi but mostly used to watch ESPN

Well many years ago the council re-roofed the porch over our front door and took a pipe out that drained water from the old roof into the downpipe. They never blocked the hole up and we have never had a problem before, that I have noticed. But 2 days ago I saw several wasps going in there and reported it to the council right away as its right above our front entrance door.

Good job you noticed them going in and out. Is it tomorrow that the council are coming to remove it?

Not too long to wait.

I'm going to sign out now. The BB HL's show has wound me up and I need a cuppa and some deep breathing exercises to wind down.

Goodnight Moonie, sweet dreams.

Summer, I hope you've had a fabulous day with your Goddaughter and friend.
