The boiler engineer has been and gone - just the routine annual service.

The client has also been and gone. He and his wife are applying for a council loan for work on their house (she is registered as disabled). He needed help with the accounts figures to go on the application form. I've pencilled in the figures for him but told him that I would not complete the accountant's certification section as the council require the accounts to be audited.

Accountants don't audit accounts for sole traders. Limited company accounts only need to be audited if the turnover is over ÂĢ6.5 m so small companis would rarely have audited accounts. Only registered auditors can do audits. Accountants who are not registered auditors but wrongly sign an audit report will get into extremely serious trouble with their regulatory body if they get found out. The cost of getting accounts officially audited would probably be greater than the amount of the loan. So the council are way out of order on this.

I hate all this red tape EL.  How are they supposed to get around that one?  Will the CAB be able to advise them I wonder.  I hope they manage to sort it out, it sounds like a very silly requirement to me.

I am glad your boiler servicing went smoothly.  I have to have my boiler replaced this summer as the engineer has said it is on its last legs.  He has quoted me around ÂĢ2,000 which sounds reasonable, new good quality boiler and fitting.  He is a guy I trust, any guidelines for me to look out for.  I have heard about needed a vent for a combi boiler, I remember you had a little trouble at the start.  He has said I should notice a savings in my fuel bill.

Good morning everyone

Hi Sweet. Hope you and Bramble enjoy your visit to you SIL's I was a shame about Nadal but not unexpected. Plenty of choice on the cereal front Sweet

Hi Yogi. We have sunshine  I hope it gets to you at sometime today

Hi El. I'm due to have my boiler serviced next moth on the day of a hospital appoint. So the servicing date has to be changed

 manners. Good morning Squiggle

Have a happy day everyone

I wish you lived round these parts squiggle. Please get a second opinion on your boiler. If it is really really old then maybe it is on the way out. But in my experience they can usually find a part here or there. I know that the modern boilers are up to ninety percent efficient compared to sixty for old back boilers, but it takes a long time to catch up two thousand poonds.

Squiggle, my combi boiler does require a vent so what you have heard seems right. That wasn't a problem as the boiler is by an outer wall of the house. My old boiler had a vent to the outside as well.

The problems I had at the start were nothing to do with the vent but were to do with the thermostat control signals being blocked from the receiver on the boiler due to the thickness of the walls. Now that I have the thermostat control closer to the boiler those problems have gone.

ÂĢ2000 seems a fair price. Your engineer knows your house so should know which boiler is appropriate.

My boiler is a Worcester combi so is one of the best known makes. 5 year guarantee so although the routine servicing is done by the installation company if it broke down then I would need to get in touch with Worcester for one of their engineers to come and sort it out. On the one time I needed them they came on the day. I'm not sure what happens when the guarantee period runs out, whether I will need to pay Worcester for call out, or whether I get the installation company to do the work, but that's a couple of years away.

Hi moonie how are you today? It's a no on the owl I'm afraid, I need daylight to photograph it properly it's a picture in a frame and I've already hung it I just happened to see it and I said to SIL "I just can't leave here without that owl" and she replied with "it's very, very you" Here's tonight's owl instead, it's El, because he's good at teaching us things

It's the glasses on him that makes me smile lol Glad you're ok- is your back easing off at all? MIL was very tired tonight by all accounts, they've had lots of different people in to see her, including a physio who did some work with her. I hear she was in good spirits though. It's my turn to visit tomorrow Oh moonie I've had a brilliant day off, the weather was perfect! We walked for 2 hours, had lunch and did a little shopping, then had tea. SIL's young stepson was there and I adore him, we played catch together and messed around with the dogs

Good morning Good luck yogi! I hope you find something you love Squiggle, MIL was well enough yesterday to let the nurses wash her hair! I'm taking my straighteners in later to flatten it for her, she'll feel really fresh for having that done Bramble is in a good mood today, just more sleepy than normal El, how's your big job going? Moonie I hope your back is even better today

Summer, your MIL should feel happier with having clean hair

I'm about 40% through my big job now - my aim is to have accounts out by the end of July so I am on target though it will depend on when the client gets the info I need to me. The most important being the value of contract work in progress. I won't go into how contract WIP is valued as that's a bit technical but the net value of this can be positive (an asset) or negative (a liability). It is quite possible that at the of one year it could be minus ÂĢ100k, and the next year plus ÂĢ50k - that would be a positive movement for the year of ÂĢ150k. So until contract WIP is valued we don't really know how the company has done.

I like the owl picture   MiL will be feeling much brighter for having clean hair, it can really pull you down if your hair is feeling (and looking) grotty.  EL those calls are infuriating, I have tried to tell myself to feel sorry for the person on the other hand because that's a job I would hate to do, but it doesn't work, they always call at an inconvenient time too.

That sport/music festival very close to where I live is still going ahead during the first week-end in July.

I had a look on the map on their site and have found an error on it saying there's parking at a named place but pointing directly where I live which is different to the named place. I've sent the festival people an email about this as there is little doubt that my area will become one solid car park.

I hope you managed to get it sorted out, El.

My shopping trip was a success. I now have an outfit to wear for the wedding- still have shoes and bag to buy, but I still have plenty of time for that.

Had a lovely lunch with future DiL, too.
