I have reported myself to myself for skiving during working hours. This isn't the first time it's happened and so I have decided to sack myself, and will now make a claim against myself for unfair dismissal.

I hope you win your case

I think the legal costs would make this too expensive

Now its getting complicated

Moonie

This could only happen in the States - back in 2005:

Only in America: a US lawyer has managed to sue himself in a class-action lawsuit in Madison County, Illinois. Emert Wyss advised a client to sue Alliance Mortgage for charging a ÂĢ30 'fax fee'. Wyss brought in three other law firms to handle the case and agreed to collect 10pc of the winnings. Unfortunately, he forgot that his own firm Centerre had collected the fee on behalf of Alliance. Wyss and Centerre are now added to the claim as third-party defendants.

I don't know what the result of the claim was.

Nothing wrong with an occasional bit of skiving, El.

True, but I could pay myself redundancy pay, claim tax relief against my profit for the amount paid, and provided the redundancy payment was less than ÂĢ25k I wouldn't have to pay tax.

And before anyone thinks that's a good tax dodge, it wouldn't work as I'm not an employee.

ROFL, you've given this a lot of thought, El.

To represent you in your case against yourself! (Damn this phone again!)

But first I would have to join a union  (it's rare for accountants in practices to be in unions - they generally belong to once of the accountancy institutes but those are not unions)

Good job you only get flying visits then

He does come for longer, less manic visits too.

I miss him since he moved out. We used to have lovely, long chats together.

Yes, I do have the flying visits - and we text and chat on the phone too.

We are very lucky with our three sons, they all live within a six mile radius of us and pop in regularly.
