Good morning everyone. Weather is overcast, with the possibility of showers this afternoon. Feels a lot cooler than yesterday.

@ the wedding owls. Brilliant, Summer!

No particular plans for today except catching up with Mr Yogi's ironing, if I can be bothered.

Skylark, hope you will be back soon.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning everyone

Yogi, sorry to hear your weather looks poor - here it's forecast to be like yetserday, sunny, dry, and pleasnatly warm. Tomorrow is forecast to be cloudier but the rain holds off until the evening.

I was switching channels last night and saw the last few minutes of Dara O Briain's School of Hard Sums. This is closer to a maths educational programme rather than a comedy programme. At the end of it he sets a spot of homework.

If you want, see if you can get the correct answer. Link is to the spot of homework, not the show.

I did get the correct answer but maths was always my best subject.

Me too and I didn't get the maths question right it was too difficult EL I need an easier one and another thing, it's time we had one of your quizzes

Squiggle, you know me so well. My preferred colours for my outfit would be lilac or blue. However, I would consider something within the purple colour palette, as long as I could find the right shade. Once the bride's mother has decided on her colour, I will go shopping with my future DiL and hopefully find something nice.

El, my worst subjects at school were maths and geography. If Squiggle got the answer wrong, then there is no hope for me.

Enjoy your long lie in bed, Summer. Maybe Mr Summer could bring you breakfast in bed?

I should be so lucky yogi he's gone shooting! I got up and walked Bramble before it gets too hot for her. She enjoyed it very much and I was thrilled to have some sun on me Blue & lilac make lovely outfits, I hope you get to have your favourite colours. Last year I was determined to wear a red dress to SIL's wedding but non fitted me well, and I ended up with a brown dress that is my favourite dress ever!

I think it's probably best to go with an open mind and just choose something which looks good on.

If you ask me the answer was a bit of a cheat

squiggle

Squiggle, the answer to that puzzle was fair. If we had been told in the question which of the Manchester sides it was then the answer would have been the answer which most people would automatically assume. But we weren't told which is why the answer is different and is fair. I had the advantage of having remembered all about combinations and permutations from when I was at school.

We had a longer version of this hymn at church today. It's not one we've ever had before.

Per this Guardian article http://www.guardian.co.uk/life...worst-season-decades it looks as if it is likely to be hay fever but because pollen levels are higher than normal because of the long cold winter people are more likely to get it. I hope you can take something for it to lessen the symptoms.

Sounds like you're borderline allergy affected like me.  My sister suffered terribly with hay fever, luckily I don't but I do get a slightly itchy nose but I count myself lucky it's not worse.

I still think it was a bit of swizz EL   Lovely rousing hymn by the way, we often used to have it, not so much lately.

Yep, Squiggle, several of my family suffer quite badly too...

We must count ourself lucky then.  I've never been diagnosed of course but can put 2 + 2 together like the next person (well unless it's EL and he's much better than me ) and so I figured out why I get an itchy nose in summer.

Me neither. Its just that i've never had such sore eyes before so may have to go to the docs if it gets any worse.

Very very old maths joke:

There were three Indian squaws. One slept on a deer skin, one slept on an elk skin, and the third slept on a hippopotamus skin. All three became pregnant. The first two each had a baby boy. The one who slept on the hippopotamus skin had twin boys.

This just goes to prove that... the squaw of the hippopotamus is equal to the sons of the squaws of the other two hides.

(if you don't get it, just think Pythagoras)

Hugs for all those suffering with hay fever.

My late brother suffered terribly with it - sore, itchy eyes; sneezing; runny nose etc. He even got asthma when his hay fever was bad, although he never had asthma at any other time.

Yogi19

I spent most of the afternoon attempting to rescue a baby starling which appears to have a dislocated or broken wing. I had hoped to take it to a wildlife rescue centre near me, which would either have been able to sort the wing, or euthanised it humanely. However, it has evaded all attempts to capture it and keeps escaping into neighbouring gardens - but it keeps coming back! Next door has a cat, which likes to kill birds and I don't want it to get this baby starling. Sometimes, nature is cruel and I don't like it.

Yogi19

I think hay fever and asthma have a link Yogi.  My sister, as I said, suffered terribly from hay fever all her life.  Later on her hubby wanted to take the family on an exotic holiday, I can't remember where now but it was not too far flung, anyway you had to have various vaccinations at that time to travel to that place, loads of injections.  She developed terrible asthma and in the end it killed her, and I came across a letter in the paper recently on the same theme.  This lady's little boy had food allergies and they had a really caring GP, he advised them not to have the wee lad vaccinated, wait until he was older because he would be prone to damage from the injection.

I watched a film earlier on, based on Maeve Binchy's book Tara Road.  How lovely it was halfway through to see the lady herself in a little scene, sitting at the bar in this restaurant with a guy who must have been her husband Gordon Snell.  I have a soft spot for Maeve and it was lovely to see her there, felt like I was seeing an old friend, what a sad loss she is.

Awful about the baby starling, I wish I had a clever plan

I know just how you feel, a while ago I had been watching a thrush coming and going all day long building a nest.  Then he sat in the tree and sang and then later he crashed into one of my windows, probably after an insect.  I rushed out and picked him up but I think his neck was broken, the springer spaniel from next door was visiting and she and I looked at this poor bird, and her mouth sort of quivered (because they are retrieving sort of dogs) and we looked at each other, it was just so sad. That poor bird had worked so hard and then it was all over

Aww, poor thing. I've had a couple of birds hit my window but luckily they have only stunned themselves and soon recovered.

My blackbirds haven't visited the garden for over a week now. I think there has been some sort of predator issue to scare them away permanently. Another pair have moved in to the area (a sure sign that mine have gone for good).

Keira was funny with the little starling today. It was hopping around the garden and she walked over to it and it stood while she gave it a sniff. I had already given her the "Leave it" command but tbh I knew she wouldn't harm it, she doesn't have it in her nature (with the exception of next door's cat!).
