Good morning squiggle

There was no snow here overnight though there were a few snowflakes blowing in the wind when I walked to my client's house yesterday.

Although you know this, the others might not. On Maundy Thursday, it has been the practice for centuries for there to be church services where the priests wash people's feet. This is to follow Jesus's example when he washed the disciples' feet (John 13).

Although the New Testament was originally written in Ancient Greek, it had been translated into Latin and that was the version used in this country. When Jesus explained why he washed the disciples' feet he said "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you".

In Latin that is "Mandatum novum do vobis ut diligatis invicem sicut dilexi vos". It is probable that over time the word "Mandatum" became Maundy and that is why today is known as Maundy Thursday.

"A new commandment.." is also a hymn which we often have in church:

EL I might be too late but did you spot that Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House has just started on BBC 2?  Great film.

I did spot the Mr Blandings film in the Radio Times, thank you . I have seen the film a couple of times, and saw it quite recently. Far better than the Money Pit film with Tom Hanks.

Largest Easter Bunny – Herman the German Giant

Posted by: john In: animals|funny|pictures

bunny.jpgHerman weighs in at 22 pounds and measures a little over 3 feet. He is a breed of rabbit called German Giant (how appropriate!). This is his owner, Hans Wagner, struggling to hold him up.

Herman lives in a specially built solid oak hutch and chomps his way through just over 2kg of food a day. His owner says his favourite snack is lettuce. The giant bunny, who lives in Berlin with owner Hans Wagner, also takes a vitamin supplement to keep him healthy, and munches through a bale of hay a week.

And he' still growing, according to German breeder Hans Wagner, whose hair-raising angora hare was the highlight of a recent rabbit fair in Berlin.

According to the Post article:

To find out how unusual Wagner's wabbit is, The Post contacted Six Bells Rabbitry in Arvada, Colo.

“That’s a huge animal. That’s amazing,” said breeder Michelle Jones. “In the States, it’s hard to get them past 12 to15 pounds.”

How did German Giant get so big?

“I don’t feed him an unusual diet,” said Wagner. “He goes through more than his brothers and sisters, but he eats the same food mix. His favorite food is actually lettuce. He can never get enough of it.”

Herr Hare is unusual in another way, he noted. “Unlike some other rabbits I’ve had, he's really a gentle character — a gentle giant.”

There was another picture but I didn't like the way the guy was holding him,Herman really did not look like a happy bunny.

I didn't mention it but my brother isn't coming here for Easter after all. He's had a persistent cough (picked up when he was on holiday in Lille). Although he's getting better, he's had very little sleep as a result of coughing and thinks that if he came he would get worse sleep. He's coming at the beginning of May over the bank holiday weekend in 5 weeks time. So the cake I bought will last me twice as long as it would have. The use by date is right at the beginning of April so it's really not an option to leave it until he does come.

There is a considerable amount of people away ill at his library at present so he will probably go in next Tuesday even though he's not due back until Wednesday just to help out. I think the cold weather hasn't helped and I think that staff morale must be very low due to the cut backs which will come in a year's time. Where staff morale is low, sickness rates tend to increase. With goverment funding being cut even more, job prospects are not good for the future. Local councils don't seem to appreciate that libraries are educational. Although the government says that education budgets will be protected from cut backs, that doesn't seem to filter through to libraries.

Squiggle, I know you like hidden object games. I wondered if you had tried Drawn. The first of the series is called The Painted Tower and the second Dark Flight. I bought these two on a disk but they can be downloaded from Big Fish and there's the third instalment there called Trail of Shadows.

I've been playing the first two and have now completed them. They are unlike any other hidden object game I've come across and the game play is unique. Some of the puzzles admittedly are very very hard but you can skip them.

What makes these stand out is the near-genius of the mind behind these - Chris Campbell - and the atmosphere generated. Although these are not in the same league as Syberia, in terms of casual games they are the best I've seen.

Yes I have played the first two EL.  The first was the best, a little confusing with you having to go through the portal, I haven't come across the third one yet but I shall look out for it.  I always play on the easiest setting because I am not very good but I do try not to skip the puzzles, it infuriates me when I can't get them.  There was one in another game I was playing recently where I just could not get the concept at all and it was because I was misreading the instructions.  I played the whole game through again because I was determined to understand it.

I agree with Yogi it is such a shame about your brother having to postpone, never mind you have the next Bank Holiday weekend to enjoy together.  It must be so stressful for your brother with the uncertainty over the libraries.

Did you manage to get your shopping done without hassle Yogi?

Aww, I think you've had it pretty bad with the wintery weather.

Pleased to say, most of our snow has gone now. I'm hoping that's the last of it for this year. *crosses fingers*
