I'm sick of the phone scammers, El. I read of one scam, where people were being charged ridiculous amounts on their phone bills, when they returned calls to scammers like the one you mentioned.

Nope, because I dont answer them Yogi. I have a phone that displays the incoming number so just let it ring out but I can well understand people getting caught if they dont. Some days I get as many as 6 or 7. They can be blocked but I think..If they want to waste their time and money, let them

A couple of hours ago I got an automated phone call: phone number 08434108154.
The message claimed that I had opted in to be contacted by them (a lie) and claiming that I could write off 70% of any debt I owed and to press 5 to speak to an advisor.
I've done a google search on that phone number and have found that many people have been contacted in the last day or so from this outfit.
Sounds more than a bit suspicious to me.
I didn't press 5.
This is the page that came up when I copied that number into Who Calls Me From EL, looks like the government are going to get teeth about these calls, about time too.

Moonie and Yogi I always run the number by the above site, usually it tells me it is a scam, and then I bar the numbers, that stops the little blighters

Good for you, Squiggle.
I don't have number blocking, but I wish I did.
I'm glad something is finally being done about these callers.

Thats another great idea. Fankoo Squiggle
Squiggle, I had looked at your link just after I got the call and realised that a lot of people had been rung in the last day or so.
Debt management companies have been claiming that they can get much of people's debts written off for some years now.
Channel 4 did a report on this back in 2006:
http://www.channel4.com/news/a...en%20off/168530.html
They push IVAs as the answer (individual voluntary arrangement). That's an alternative to a bankruptcy and may be appropriate for some people but is very definitely not a cure-all (and of course the debt management companies get a nice fee out of it).
IVAs would be viable for someone like a qualified accountant (not that I have any need for an IVA) if they were in financial difficulties, particularly as an accountant who is made bankrupt (but not IVA) will probably be stripped of their qualification by their institute, but not for many people..
I have had 4 scam phone calls so far this week. They used 4 different numbers, all basically trying the same scam, 2 had the Manchester code, the other 2 were different. I have barred them all. Obviously they must all be related, heaven knows what they will try next.
I haven't had any this week. I've just tempted fate, haven't I?
People like me who use Virgin cable for their phone don't have the option of being able to bar specific numbers. They can bar numbers which are withheld but that's not an option for me as quite a lot of my clients are ex-directory.
A team at Oxford University have been working on a car and released this video clip today.
You are not seeing things, the person sitting in the driver's seat has his hands off the steering wheel throughout. Lasers and cameras have been fitted in the car and are used to ensure that all obstacles are avoided. Very early days and the car is being tested not on the public highway but on a specially constructed site.
Off for a bath and an early night. Sweet dreams everyone.
Hug for Summer, hope you've had a lovely Valentine's Day.
Good morning everyone. Weather is dry and milder than recent days.
Lovely pic of the puppy in the basket, Summer.
I had a great sleep last night - eight hours of undisturbed slumber.
Good morning everyone
Another reasonably sunny day with temperatures back to normal. Doesn't look though as if this is the start of spring as the forecasts currently indicate that temperatures will go back down in a few days and remain below average for the next month.
Good morning everyone, it's lovely and dry here, I don't care if it's cloudy or whatever as long as we don't get any more rain.
I loved the goodnight pic of the dog in the basket Summer. Isn't it odd how these things suddenly sound an alarm, obviously got fed up with being left on its own. I remember it happened once with an alarm clock, took a while to track it down.
Breakfast looks yummy, I don't know what the weekend plans are yet, my knee has been playing up and I'm trying to rest it, if it doesn't settle down I will try to rest over the weekend. It's been one of those weeks again and I need a quiet day today
I am so glad you got a really good nights sleep Yogi, you must have been tired.
Yummy breakfast, Summer
No particular plans for the weekend.
Being woken early by an unusual alarm must be a bit disconcerting.
Squiggle, I'm sorry to hear your knee is playing up
At half eight this morning England beat New Zealand in their cricket match.
At half ten this morning England beat New Zealand in their cricket match.
That's not a typo, just a rather unusual coincidence - the first match was the men's teams and the second the women's teams.
Summer, there is a different attitude between cricket and association football in England at this time. In cricket, the country is put first, and that's not the case in association football. Rugby football is closer to cricket in attitude.
The sun is shining!
Yes, I feel better after my sleep, thanks Summer.
Am I too late to eat breakfast? What if I call it brunch? It all looks delicious.
Squiggle, I hope you get the chance to rest your knee. Do you have anything you can take for it?
El, do you mean that in football, the club is more important than the national team?

Nah, its never to late
Thanks Summer, I take Glucosamine, occasionally with Chondroitin, and I have recently started taking Hyaluronic Acid, it's getting the balance right that's the tricky bit, and I am prescribed paracetomol by the doc for pain. It's the driving that aggravates it I think, all the up and down with the clutch. I used to have an automatic car and that's much kinder on the left knee.

Stop encouraging me, or I'll never shift the pounds.
Could they give you stronger painkillers, Squiggle, or might they upset your stomach?
Yogi, that is what I mean, in association football the clubs in England are more important than the national side. It's the excessive wealth that causes it.
I can no longer take ibuprofen or asprin Yogi, they irritate my stomach. I manage with paracetamol though.
Hi all
I sympathise with your knee problem squiggle
Its been a lovely day here, very springlike , hope it continues.
I never got any Valentine cards
