Summer, I'm still coughing a bit, but I think I'm over the worst of the cold now as my voice is less growly than it was.
Glad you are feeling a bit better EL and hopefully on the road to recovery.
Looks like I am the only one still enjoying Mr Selfridge. Selfridges was always my favourite London store and it's interesting to see how it got its start, bearing mind these things are fictionalised. I see in the papers it has prompted some people to reminisce about when they worked in the store when Gordon Selfridge himself used to come around and speak to his staff.
Sorry you've lost me Summer

Hi everyone. The snow has stopped and hopefully will melt soon.
El, glad to hear you are feeling better.
Squiggle, I am pleased you are still enjoying Mr Selfridge. I wanted to like it but it just didn't hold my attention.
Good morning everyone
Squiggle, your grandson's friend should do well - that looks a great cake
No snow expected here though may be some rain, and it's cold and quite windy.
Yesterday's University Challenge included one of the greatest wrong answers of all time in any quiz programme
Jeremy Paxman: "Timothy Dalton, Orson Welles, Toby Stephens and Michael Fassbender are among the actors who played which romantic figure, the creation of Charlotte Bronte?"
Then Peter Aronica of Imperial College London buzzes in with his answer which is truly staggering.
To get the true effect, it's best to watch the programme in iPlayer:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/e...012_2013_Episode_25/
The question starts at 20 minutes 11 seconds
For those who want to see the answer without watching the programme, it follows here (but I've made it invisible so highlighting what follows will show it) :Inspector Clouseau
Oh dear, he might get a ribbing from his mates for that answer.
I agree with Joe, Paxman shouldn't have gone on the way he did, he just added to the lad's obvious embarrassment.

Thanks for the reminder EL, I had forgotten the name of the department store in there, a long time since I read that wonderful book.
Pietro (not Peter) Aronica (University Challenge) admits that his answer was just a shot in the dark.
I should think he and his team mates had quite a good laugh with Jeremy Paxman after the show about it.
I am watching The Mary Berry story on BBC2. She was talking about the tragic, accidental death of her son, William, aged 19. Even with the passing of many years, her heartbreak is so raw. I was in tears listening to her talk of him so lovingly.
Signing out early tonight. Goodnight everyone.
Hug for Summer, and anyone else doing a bit of night owling.
Good morning everyone.
Summer, I'm pleased to tell you that most of the snow has disappeared.
Thank you for breakfast, it all looks delicious.
I hope you didn't get too windswept on your walk with Bramble.
I'm out and about with Mr Yogi this morning. We intend to do dome decorating this year, and I want some ideas on colour, carpets etc.
Have a good day everyone, catch up later.
Good morning everyone
I'm off now to drop off my car for that coolant leak and tyres check I mentioned a few weeks ago. I'll be back later.
Goodness it is so windy here, it's definitely been gale force winds overnight. Hope you haven't all been blown away
I'm back from dropping off my car. 3 mile walk in the cold wind +bus and a repeat on the way back. Obviously I wrapped up well. It's dry and there is no snow in this area.
They will ring me with an update as to what they find so at present I don't have a price.
There's several things which need to be sorted out on the car and I doubt I'll get much change out of ÂĢ400. Luckily for me, I've got the money. I suspect that a major factor which has caused the work is the deteriorating state of the roads in this area.
I'm having a nice quiet day thanks Summer. That old lady sounds lovely
Did you need new tyres then EL, things add up so much don't they? There are some awful potholes, one is on the road out of the village and it must be 8-10 inches deep, you just have to remember to avoid it, which means driving on the wrong side of the road leaving the village.
Hi all
Been busy with one thing and another. Will be back later to catch up
Ouch El, that's quite a bill. Good job you have funds to pay for it.
You are right Squiggle, the roads are in a terrible state ATM, with big potholes all over the place.
Summer, I bet the elderly lady enjoyed her natter with you. It's good to talk.
We are going to decorate the hall and stairs, and the back bedroom.
ATM, I am still trying to decide on colour schemes - I will probably opt for something neutral or pastel. I picked up some colour charts, but left them in the Toby Carvery when we went for lunch.
Hi Skylark, are you buzzing about today?
Squiggle, yes, tyres amongst other things. The coolant leak is costing ÂĢ170, so it's quite easy to get to ÂĢ400. Although I haven't seen potholes that deep, there are potholes all over the place. The council patches them up, but as soon as they've done one, another appears. They really should resurface the roads generally, but cuts rule that out. It's not helped by the severe winters in recent years, not that this winter is particularly bad (to date).
I better make a move to pick the car up as it will take a good hour to get there.
Squiggle...granddaughters birthday not until April 5th, having the party on the 7th. Had to book it now because places fill up so quickly especially around Easter time. If your friend can make one that would be great, if not its perfectly fine xx I was thinking of Hello Kitty, its one of her faves at the moment.
Hope all goes well picking up the car El.
I do that too Yogi, always leaving things!. I like the Toby,s
I bet the lady was pleased to have a good old natter with you Summer.
Just been having those lovely meetings
Munching away on cherries just now, hoping it helps the old arthritis, which is bothering me just now. think its just because i have been doing too much. What a price they are Still if they do some good it will be money well spent
I love M&S cherries, they are fabulous, but you need a mortgage to buy them!

She doesn't think she could get it to you in one piece, even with a courier (which would inflate the price dreadfully) they are not the most delicate of handlers are they? It's a shame but I hope you find a nice cake locally.

Yes i had that thought myself. Do wish her well though
I'm back with the car - ÂĢ336 cost of the tyres, replacing coolant tank assembly & bits & pieces.

I dont drive, as you know. Is that a fair price then?

I will Skylark
Off for a soak in the bath, me old bones are aching !
Goodnight
Summer, I think I saw a Hello Kitty cake somewhere, too. I've only been in Tesco and Morrisons recently, so I'll check out Morrisons tomorrow and Tesco at the weekend for you, Skylark. Hope your bath eases your bones.
I wonder exactly when she is coming and which bookstore she is visiting? I'm guessing it will be Waterstone's.
