That sounds like a frightening incident with the bus driver Yogi, I am glad you are safe.

Summer I hope all is going well, Bramble was definitely eyeing up your cake, and the flowers are beyoooootiful

^^^^I reckon they might have been buying some of these.

Thank you, Squiggle. I no longer want to throttle the bus driver.

Good morning everyone

Some snow overnight and probably some more snow showers during the day though I doubt if it will cause many problems locally. It will be gone by Saturday as the temperature rises back to closer to average. There's not enough snow here to cause flooding problems when it gets warmer and wetter.

Squiggle, the two snowmen were having a drink:

Good morning everyone. There's still some snow lying, and it has frozen, which makes things very slippy underfoot.

Mr Yogi and eldest son bought a couple of boxes of Seville oranges, and want me to make marmalade. So I will need to go up the loft and get some jars (Mr Yogi keeps jars for pickling onions, cabbage etc up there) and sterilise them. There is a rather complicated recipe on the side of the orange boxes but I've decided to use a Delia recipe instead. Keep your fingers crossed it works out.

Skylark, I hope your computer problems are resolved very soon - we miss you.

They seemed OK yesterday but I fear they will eventually collapse

Nigel Slater is fine, though I'm not sure I would consider him to be a celebrity.

I agree Squiggle, I find Delia's recipes are always a success. If in doubt, choose a Delia recipe.

El, Nigel Slater is one of my favourite cooks and I was given a copy of his Kitchen Diaries ll for Christmas.

I also bought Jamie Oliver's 15 Minute Meals and was given Gordon Ramsay's Ultimate Cookery Course. I think Mr Yogi is expecting some culinary delights from me now - thus far, he has been disappointed!

Good afternoon Back home now, with a very tired Bramble. SIL did a great job of walking her for us, and thoroughly enjoyed it too. My birthday was lovely; we went to Yorkshire, which I love! We stayed in a lovely cabin, had a back massage and a delicious 3 course dinner. I couldn't fault a single thing! Sorry to hear about your road rage incident yogi, that driver is very irresponsible I'm glad he didn't cause you any damage

I don't know if any of you have been watching Father Brown. It's set in Gloucestershire and was filmed there. The better known locations are at Sudeley Castle in Winchcombe, Lower Slaughter (well named ), and Moreton in Marsh

The railway scenes were filmed on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway which I mentioned a week or so ago. More info and photos on their site:

Wow real Charlie Brown snowflakes here (as my friend in Canada says).

Does that mean they are big flakes?

I've watched a couple of episodes of Father Brown and thought it was okay. I tend to forget it's on though.

Oh what a shame El, I was looking forward to see a pic of the snowman you would have built if you had have had a foot of snow We've had a thaw on today, its been quite a relief too! The inconsiderate neighbours have abandoned their car in the most ridiculous place, I'm surprised it hasn't been hit by another vehicle. Hopefully it won't be long before everything is back to normal

Apparently Angus was the tallest snowman:

Yes they were huuuuuge!   I agree about Father Brown, it was OK and maybe if it was on once a week I would have liked it better.  Hated Blandings though I didn't think Tim Spall was right in the part, I only watched one though.

My friend in Canada has just emailed, it is minus 42 over there!

They are used to it and of course are far more geared up for it because it happens every winter, and for most of the winter.  My friend lives in the lakes area and the lakes, certainly at the edges, freeze to a depth of 12" or so, I think I have mentioned before that her hubby goes ice fishing and they light a fire on the ice.  We always laugh at the thought of that, it seems so silly - they light the fire on a brick base evidently.

Yogi, I did see that animated film of the snowman and the snow dog. The flying scenes were the best, but it didn't quite have the magical quality of the original.

Summer, well done on your snow sculptures

Squiggle, I didn't even try Blandings. The previews put me right off.

Parts of Canada can get extremely cold in winter.

That sounds bonkers but I'm sure they know what they're doing.

I still have it on my V+, too.

Good morning everyone

Coldish, overcast and dry here. Apart from on gardens and flat roofs most of the snow has gone now. As we are being advised by the Environmental Agency to build snowmen (that's true) to slow down flooding from the rapid thaw from Friday evening into Saturday, I am going to have to start climbing onto neighbours' roofs to collect sufficient snow to be able to make even a small snowman. I will of course need to wear suitable clothing and will need some form of transport to get from rooftop to rooftop. I'll see if I can contact someone used to this form of work as currently he's unemployed as his work is very seasonal.

Good morning everyone, not as cold here.  EL make sure you follow all the Health & Safety guidelines in pursuit of your dangerous endeavour   I admire your sense of civic duty.

I was just wondering why anyone would want to eat a candle, like would they be useful on a camping trip?  You could use for them to light but in the event of a disaster you could eat 'em?
