@ the baubles under the sofa - that's the sort of thing Harv would have done. DiL said she hung some chocolate decs on her tree but had to put them up really high where Harvey couldn't reach, or he'd have nicked them.

*touch wood* she's made no attempt at escaping the garden, but she did dig one of our pots as a young puppy, we stopped her then and she's never tried again. They are great fun though aren't they I'm Struggling to stay awake yogi so I'll wish you goodnight while I can, I have a terrible habit if passing out in the darnie thread without warning Sweet dreams

Good morning everyone

Rained here from mid afternoon until after I went to bed but dry and sunny now though temperatures down. Several days of cold weather ahead.

Bit alarming this morning when I turned on my computer and found that my mouse wasn't working. I tried a different mouse with the same result and realised it was the USB ports not working. In the end I rebooted the computer and my mouse is working again. I've taken the precaution of printing off some notes about how to get the pointer to work by just using the keyboard.

Good morning much colder, but bright & sunny I'm just letting my breakfast go down and then I'll give Bramble a nice long walk. Squiggle- just for you... It's not the tree in question, but this was one occasion where she got caught hiding behind the other tree! She likes to look out of the window but is not supposed to be climbing up on the window sill. The first time she got up there, we discovered her with snow spray all over her face El, I hope your mouse continues to work alright from now on. I hate it when they go wrong. I once had mouse & keyboard problems, for 3 days, only to discover that the little box that links them wirelessly had been knocked off the desk and was out of range! Fortunately, the mouse on the iMac sends it's signal directly to the screen and that will tell you if the batteries are low Yogi, I hope CBB was good, did I miss anything exciting? I had such a heavy sleep last night, and luckily bramble fancied relaxing beside me for a lay in this morning mr summer sends her up as he leaves for work Hope to see skylark later

Good luck at the dentist Skylark.

EL the exception that proves the rule, one crime series that looks good to me is starting Monday 14th January on BBC1 in the afternoons, a 10 part series, Father Brown.  I liked Cadfael and the one set in Victorian times with a detective called Corky I seem to recall where Kevin Whately played the sidekick.  So It's the quirkiness I like.

Squiggle, i'll try to remember to record Father Brown. I read the G K Chesterton stories many years ago and saw the film version (1954) starring Alec Guinness and also the 1974 television series starring Kenneth More.

Whether Mark Williams as Father Brown is suitable for the role remains to be seen as he may well ruin it.

I liked Cadfael as well though I can't remember seeing that series set in Victorian times.

Good morning everyone. Weather is dry now, although it was raining earlier.

Summer, I love that pic - you can see by Bramble's expression that she knows she shouldn't be on the window ledge.

Skylark, good luck at the dentist. I've made an appointment for next week.

I hadn't seen any ads for Father Brown, so I'm glad you mentioned it, Squiggle. I've set my V+ to record the series.

If anyone watches Silent Witness, there is a new series starting tomorrow night (BBC1 at 9pm). I have a feeling this may be the last series.

Hope the mouse doesn't give you any more problems, El - but at least you are prepared, if it does.

That's the one EL, good series and of course it was William Gaunt and not Kevin Whately I have no idea why I mix those two up.  I agree with you about reserving judgement on who is going to play Father Brown.  The same goes for Blandings on on Sunday and the lead role is taken by Timothy Spall.  Now I like Timothy Spall but I don't think I can see him as Lord Emsworth.  By the way Scott of the Antarctic (the 1948 version with John Mills) is on BBC2 1.15 Saturday, a great film and one which you may like to see again, always brings a lump to my throat.

I've got my dentists appointment next week too Yogi having got muddled about the time of the last one.

PG Wodehouse is pretty difficult to pull off although Fry and Lawrie did a pretty good job    And that one featured my favourite car - an Invicta    Tbh I don't have high hopes although I'm a big Spall fan - lovely distinctive voice.

If the Beeb let Silent Witness drop off I'm gonna be devastated although nothing - repeat nothing (Killing, Homeland etc.) could hold a candle to the magnificent  Waking The Dead

Maybe you should tell us which day, so we can remind you.

It's on Tuesday, I keep running over the appointment in my head so I don't forget it

Hi Velvet did you see Timothy Spall in that series where he sailed around the coast of Britain?  It was good and interesting to see him off duty as it were.

Yogi I know you like using Play.com

Jersey retailer Play.com closes direct retail business

Online retailer Play.com is to shut down its retail business becoming a marketplace only from March 2013.

The Jersey based company blamed the move on the ending of Low Value Consignment Relief allowing items less than ÂĢ15 to be sold to the UK VAT free.

The company is making 147 staff redundant in Jersey as well as 67 in its Cambridge and Bristol offices.

Play.com will be more like a shopping centre with the move, no longer selling directly to the customers themselves.

The Low Value Consignment Relief (LVCR) loophole was shut by the UK government in April 2012.

In a statement Play.com said: "Moving forward we are intending to focus exclusively on our successful marketplace, which is our main business area, and to phase out the direct retail part of our business."

In September the States of Jersey said about 400 people had lost their jobs elsewhere in the island because of the end of LVCR.

So I can still buy from the Play Traders?

Maybe my purse won't be healthier after all.

That's my understanding. Their Twitter page seems to be trying to reassure customers who have been panicking:

Thanks El, I'll take a look.

Shame about all those people who are losing their jobs though.
