Easy mistake to make with your dental appointment, Squiggle.

Well done to your grandson for getting his Christmas shopping done. Do you think men are quicker at choosing things than we are - do we dither put more thought into it than they do?

I'll try to remember to record the Marilyn programme this time, thanks for the heads up.

Waiting in again for a delivery today. It was supposed to arrive mid-afternoon but still no sign of it.

Thanks for the film times. I'll watch out for those though I have seen Miracle a few times (the original one rather than the Richard Attenborough one). At some time I think Channel 5 are reshowing the Patrick Stewart version of A Christmas Carol so I may record that one. That's based on their trailers but I could well be wrong as the trailer also includes Scrooge (the Alastair Sim version) which I've seen too recently to want to see it again just yet. Though Channel 5 are in their Christmas film overkill season at present so they may well be showing both. I like Christmassy films but you can have too much of a good thing.

I don't think its that version of Christmas Carol EL, it's the 2009 Jim Carrey one.

EDIT  I just checked and Channel 5 are indeed showing the Alastair Sim one, which I think will be much better - Jim Carrey's alright but he can go OTT.

The Jim Carrey version of A Christmas Carol is on BBC1 on Christmas Eve but I'll give that one a miss.

I love A Christmas Carol but I'm with you on the Jim Carrey version.

she is her usual perky, bouncy, playful self tonight, I think the trip to the vets prevented it being a lot worse. Fingers crossed she'll be ok, I'm still worrying though

good to see skylark back, I was wondering where she was- hope you feel better soon, and for your son too

So pleased to hear Bramble is back to her perky self. Typical of babies and puppies, they worry the life out of you then bounce back so quickly, leaving you feeling like a washed-out rag.

So true Yogi, you worry yourself silly and then it all turns out fine.  As long as Bramble is playing and eating I am sure there is nothing to worry about Summer she would soon let you know if she wasn't feeling her old self.

Thank you too Summer for your kind comments, my daughter is still unwell and they don't have much money coming in so all the shopping and make up and hair colouring etc is not Christmas shopping but just to stock them up a bit.  I think it turned out better actually not having to fit in the dentist we had so much to do.

Ooh just had to break off in the middle of this post to answer the phone.  Good news and bad, my friend has just had a new great granddaughter born in the early hours of this morning but she sounds dreadful and has got the flu despite having the flu jab.  She was due out on an outing with her daughters today as well and had borrowed my hubby's wheelchair for it as she is the one waiting for an operation on her back.  I hope she, like you Skylark is feeling better in time for Christmas.

She dare not be around the baby until she has shaken it off, awful timing isn't it?  Glad Bramble is full of beans

Really?! Blimey, I can't imagine mr summer wearing leggings but never say never lol fashion really is a peculiar thing sometimes isn't it. Squiggle, I expect your friend will be very eager to meet the baby, lets hope it won't be too much longer. A friend gave me a gift last night; a rudolph jumper, knitted by her mum! I was so delighted that I cried

I should imagine very few will be able to get away with meggings   The mind boggles at some sights we could be treated to if some are daft enough to try.  Reminds me of the time when black leggings and huge big boots were all the rage, me and my hubby used to have quite a giggle at the time

What a lovely gift Summer - picture please?? (preferably you wearing it )

Our weather this morning is like a pop group - Wet Wet Wet - Geddit?

Good luck with the pressie buying Yogi - I'm up to my ears in present wrapping.  Of the two X Boxes one arrived left outside the door with a Yodel sticker on it - it wasn't there the night before when I locked up and it was there first thing in the morning.  Very irresponsible isn't it?  The other arrived with Hermes in the normal way, signed for etc BUT one of the seals on the box is broken and looks like it has been that way for some while and I notice one corner is a little squashed looking.  I have reported the broken seal and squashed corner to Amazon in case there is a fault with this one, I should find out on the 21st when I give the boys their gifts.

I agree Yogi it's so dark I've got the light on already.

morning It's dark & wet here, snow last night but it's milder now.. Thanks for the hug yogi, I went straight to bed last night, mr summer was tired so I walked bramble myself and then decorated a wreath in the garage, so a busy evening. Good luck with your shopping today, I hope you find everything you need Squiggle, that's shocking leaving the Xbox outside like that! Anything could have happened to it

I love the Aldi ad too, El.

Squiggle, when I came home from Christmas shopping there was a card through the door from Yodel. The driver had ticked the box for "I have left your parcel in a safe place" - he had left it behind the small conifer which is right outside the front door. In fairness, I never noticed the parcel when I ulocked the door but it's hardly a safe place.

I have posted my Christmas cards and got most of the gifts I went for. Just a couple still to get - as soon as son gives me some hints!

I was looking at an accountancy website, spotted the name of a company which my mother worked for many years ago.

After the end of WW2 my mother was working in London for 6 years until she married my father and moved here. She did a few jobs but her last one and the one she liked most was at the PRS (was the Performing Rights Society). The main purpose of the PRS is to collect music royalties from around the world relating to British performers, composers and distributors and to distribute the royalties to them.

Her department dealt with royalties coming from South America. I don't remember which country in South America my mother was dealing with. Her work was to collate all the royalties received and to work out how much was to be paid over to each person. The amount to be paid on each piece of music for each person involved would vary and there were quite a lot of complicated formulae involved.

There were no computers in those days and no calculators. Although there would have been adding machines, most of the work had to be calculated by my mother and the others. Brainstraining work to say the least.

So, what is the most unusual job you or a close one have done?
