So glad you liked the make an elf costume video Summer, you must show us a pic when you have finished.

Oh no Yogi!  For a minute there I thought we were on a schedule with us all taking turns to get no TV (or Strictly) over the weekend, thank goodness you are back on now.  I had a to do night before last when I couldn't get on to the internet on the laptop, I think it's because I have to unplug and plug in the router every now and then.

I love that pic, Squiggle. I want to sit on that rocking chair and just enjoy the beautiful view.

I'll park my rocking chair next to yours and we can have tea and lemon meringue cookies - calorie free of course.

That sounds like bliss, Squiggle.

Good morning everyone

Heavy cloud cover and wet here though the rain is forecast to end around noon. Then there should be a few dryish days to follow.

In the FA Cup yesterday, the Gloucestershire derby between Cheltenham and Yate went the expected way with Cheltenham comfortable winners 3-0. Gloucester City has managed to get into the FA Cup and their match with Maidenhead is this afternoon. They play at the Cheltenham ground nowadays as their ground was destroyed in the July 2007 floods - Gloucester City is in a league below Maidenhead which is in a league 2 below Cheltenham. The dominance of rugby in Gloucester means that the football is overshadowed.

I'm not going to the match but still wish them well. The draw for the second round is this afternoon and if Gloucester were to win and be drawn against Cheltenham that would be quite interesting as who would I then wish to win

El Loro

The rain has stopped now, but is still very overcast.

Squiggle, I hope your internet problems can be sorted out quickly. It wouldn't surprise me if the telephone wire to your house has become corroded due to the quantity of rain this year. I'm fairly certain that was the cause of my broadband problems before I switched to Virgin. At least with Virgin using optical cables, I don't think corrosion can happen.

El Loro

Because of the heavy rain overnight, the match between Gloucester and Maidenhead had to be postponed. The draw for the next round has been made and whichever side wins will go to Alfreton.

Cheltenham have been drawn at home to Hereford. Hereford are in the Conference division, the one below Cheltenham's. Both Cheltenham and Hereford have had good FA cup runs in the past so this match could prove to be one of the ties of the round.

Although there was snow this morning in the West Country including the Cotswolds, there was none in Gloucester itself.

As far as the telephone wires are concerned, would that have included the one from the telegraph pole to your house?

Good morning everyone, chilly and cloudy here.

I have one of those SSID applications installed EL which shows me any other routers nearby and what channel they are on and there's only me showing, so I suppose that mean I am not affected by any other routers?   As I work mainly from the laptop nowadays that is of course a wireless signal from the main router which is plugged into the back of the PC.  They did have to replace the main connector on my telephone pole a few years back because that had corroded and was stopping the signal - what a saga that was with BT keep closing the fault alert and claiming the fault was fixed.  I had to involve Oftel or Ofcom or one of those in the end to make them do what they should have done in the first place.  I did notice this morning that on my PC my firewall was seeking permission (twice??? was is it with this bossy technology?) to allow my antivirus to access the internet.  I tell you sometimes it feels as if you need a brain the size of a planet to deal with all the little niggles it all throws at you.  I just want it to work pretty please

Off to M & S soon with eldest grandson, then through the car wash, fill up with petrol (first time for about 2 months) he will check my tyre pressures for me and then onto MacDonalds (for him) and off to buy a new saw.

Have a good day everyone.

squiggle

Squiggle, so it could be that the connector at the telephone wire coming from the pole to your house is corroded at the house end rather than at the pole end?

I often get a firewall message seeking permission to access the internet, most likely when I've installed a new program and it is needing to access the internet for the first time.

Good luck with your shopping expedition. I had those cookies over the weekend and they are nice - the cranberrries in them are soft, not hard.

Good morning It's very cold but bright here, there was a thick icy frost on the car this morning! Good luck Xmas shopping yogi, great timing because its only 50 sleeps now Squiggle i hope things get back to normal very soon for you, something funky is going on here too because I lost my network coverage and had to restart my phone, and my radio signal has vanished! One of my customers said the radio disappeared whilst they were driving too.. Strange

I wonder if it's work being carried out re the 4G mobile networks which is affecting things. I know it's not yet in operation other than a few large cities, but the phone companies must be doing work in preparation.

It is known that 4G will affect millions of Freeview television viewers. Estimates are put at 2 million households. If your house is within 2 kilometres (1.24 miles) of any 4G base station there will be interference. Contingency plans are being drawn for those affected where filters will have to be fitted - costs will have to be paid for by the mobile phone operator. There will be some where the filters aren't adequate and those households will have to switch to Sky satelite or Virgin cable.

In today's local newspaper - the headline is as printed.

Elf and safety threatens Christmas lights switch-on in Bishop's Cleeve

HEALTH and safety fears could pull the plug on Bishop’s Cleeve Christmas celebrations.

Parish councillors have voted against plans for the Christmas lights switch-on – one of the most popular events on the village calendar.

They say they cannot risk the danger of overcrowding outside the parish offices in Church Road. They fear the area cannot cope with the expected crowd of several hundred, including many children.

Councillor Phil Taylor, chairman of communities and well being, accused the Christmas lights committee of failing to carry out health and safety procedures.

He said: “The (Laburnum Cottage) garden can hold about 140 people, but in an estimate, we’ll see many hundreds of people who will come to the event.”

Councillor Peter Lightfoot, chairman of the parish council, added: “If it is a fine evening, you will get hundreds of people and that will be a problem.”

Parish councillors also raised concerns about event licences, lack of stewards, the weight of the fairground roundabout, notices for road closure, adequate risk assessment and insurance to parish council property.

The Christmas lights switch-on ceremony, which would be in its 11th year, was due to take place on November 24 at a temporary stage near Laburnum Cottage, with fairground rides and stalls in the small garden in front of the parish council offices.

Peter Badham, vice chairman of the Chamber of Commerce which organises the event, said a PCSO would be on patrol, but councillors expressed doubts whether that would be enough.

He said: “If the parish council doesn’t want to co-operate, then we will just turn the lights on without the event.”

The parish council said Church Road could not be closed to traffic, as it did for the Bishop’s Cleeve Fair, as there was not enough time to apply for permission.

The committee also rejected using the space outside the community building as it does not have the money to hire generators.

Mr Badham, who is also a parish councillor, said the only other option would be his pharmacy, which could only hold about 30 people.

He said: “The council is supposed to be working with the community, not having all this in-fighting. They have also given us nothing in terms of cash.”

Mr Taylor also pointed the finger at the Christmas lights committee for not coming to the parish council early enough.

He said: “You came to us four weeks before the event was about to happen and we have been trying to engage the Christmas lights committee over the last two years.”

Health and safety guidelines for public events state that organisers need to have crowd management, planning for emergencies and event stewards.

A quick sign in because I will probably be off the internet again soon.  I have not had an internet signal all day and I have noticed that on the telephone pole which serves only my house there are two wires dangling but why I am able every now and then to get a signal I have no idea   Haven't had a chance to read back much, thought I would update you in case I go again.  Hope everything is going well, hopefully speak soon.  I have reported it to BT which was a total nightmare of menu phone calls, 2 phone calls to an Indian call centre, 2 phone calls to BT Openreach who won't in fact speak to you but simply refer you back to BT.

Oh and my grandson went around the house swapping the broadband filters with a new one to see if that made a difference because I know that's the first thing they ask.

squiggle

Squiggle, how utterly frustrating for you

I found this thread on a BT forum which shows you are not alone in being passed from BT to Openreach then back to BT and getting nowhere.

http://community.bt.com/t5/Pho...e-Problem/td-p/46883

It does sound as if the external wiring is damaged. Broadband does seem to require more strength of electric current going through the wires rather than telephone so a damaged wire would cause more problems, Your problems sound so similar to mine pre switching over to Virgin.

El Loro

Thank you EL I will check out that link.  It is so frustrating for people who can remember when you could pick up a phone and be put straight through to a BT engineer.  Unfortunately there is not a hope of us ever being cabled here, although they did lay that fibre optic cable down the length of the lane but the engineer told me it would be not operational in my lifetime, so why did they lay the blessed thing then?  Life is a puzzle sometimes.

Crikey, I had no idea that 4G would interfere with freeview technology! I have the iPhone 5 but am in no hurry to pay extra for 4G, I'm sure it's going to be great but I'm content with the current facilities-especially with gaga having the app Squiggle I hope your connection is better tonight Yogi, lol at Keira! Bramble jumped a mile when she saw/heard her first one the other night, we were out walking at the time so I made lots of "oooh" "Aaah pretty" type noises and smiled lots, she doesn't seem too bothered by them going off now

Good morning everyone.  Oh no Yogi not more rain next week, I am just getting used to some lovely dry weather.  When we were at McDonalds yesterday the sky was blue and even the breeze felt warmish, it felt like a real treat.

I am glad your dogs weren't frightened too much by the fireworks, I like the way you soothed Bramble Summer, I can just hear her thinking 'well Mummy's not frightened so I won't be'.
