Morning

Cold here today, i had to put the heating on through the night too
We didnt get in to Frankie and Bennys. It is just a small one and was busy with a queue waiting on tables too, so ended up in a Witherspoon.Food was ok.
Getting the shower fixed this morning
Didnt see The Scapegoat, but i am sure i read the book years ago.
Have a good day all

It really does feel like winter, the seasons are mixed up this year.  Still it's a brighter morning now and set to remain dryish until later afternoon.  I am resisting putting any heating on while I can get away with it.  The energy companies will get as little money out of me as possible.

We don't really have any of those lovely places like Frankie and Bennys down here in my part of the country, or even a Witherspoons or a Harvester, it really is the back of beyond for things like that.

Thank you for the feedback on Scapegoat, I think I saw the earlier version ages and ages ago, I am looking forward to it

Squiggle, a truly tranquil scene

Re your lack of places like Harvester and the others, how is your grandson getting on as a chef at the hotel ?

Skylark, The television version of The Scapegoat has some very fundamental differences from the book, in particular the ending.

Squiggle, this television version is very different to the Alec Guinness film which I also saw years ago. The ending to the Alex Guiness film is different both to the television version and the book.

My grandson is doing totally brilliantly EL.  I thought he would as he is as keen as mustard.  The guy who runs the hotel, the owner, one of the family who owns the chain of hotels came round and told him he was playing a blinder and evidently this guy doesn't give out praise all that often.

Interesting about the different endings to the Scapegoat.

Good afternoon! Sorry I didn't get back yesterday, I went out to pay that bill and ended up "popping in quickly" to a wholesalers that supply florists & gift shops.. Only to discover they were laying out their Christmas stuff I went giddy with festive spirit and couldn't leave for ages lol Then I came home, tidied up, walked bramble and had mr summer's niece over to do my hair, she ended up staying late.. Is everyone having a good day? It's very chilly here! Squiggle I think your grandson will get promoted up the ranks and will be a well respected head chef in no time! I'm pleased he's enjoying his job

Squiggle, that's great news for your grandson

There was a brief item on the BBC news at lunchtime about the discovery of the oldest colour moving pictures from about 110 years ago. This is a clip from the National Media Museum website about this. It's similar to the one shown on television but goes into more detail about how it was restored.

I am not aware that I am related to the star of the clip

It's quite possible we are. If I ever become well known, maybe the BBC will have an edition of "Who Do You Think You Are?" on me and they might find out. Alternatively they may find a version of the film with a soundtrack so we might then know the star's name

In the early days of cinema, others had tried to make colour films. These though were shot in black and white and the film negative was then hand painted to add colour. This is one of the better examples from 1904 and was directed by Georges Melies - it's about 6 minutes long and is only part of the film which lasted for 24 minutes.

When I saw the story of the colour film on BBC Breakfast, I immediately thought of you, EL.

What a shame about F&B's, Skylark. Sometimes there is a queue at the one near us, too.

Summer, I bet you had a great time rooting through the Christmas stuff in the wholesalers. Did you manage to get things for your wreath?

Squiggle, the second part of Bletchley Circle is on tonight at 9pm.

I did yogi, and yes squiggle lol how well you know me I got everything I need apart from the actual wire ring- the most essential part! They only sell them in packs of 20, so I bought 2 from eBay today My craft supplies now overflow my craft box, I need a bigger one, or a second one lol I almost put wartime farm on as I was channel hopping, I should think it was very, very hard work farming back then. My grandmother joined the forces, rather than become a land girl, she drove supply trucks & ambulances.. She would have been a teacher if war hadn't broke out.

Good morning everyone

Cloudy but dry here.

at Snoopy, Woodstock, Woodstock & Woodstock.

To anyone who has recorded the second episode of Bletchley Park, stop watching it as soon as Jean (Julie Graham) is invited into the building by the youngish man who opens the door and invites her in. The reason is that ITV then has a preview of next week's episode and may have given too much away. It wouldn't be the first time that ITV has done this.

Summer, my mother was also in the ATS like your grandmother. She did start learning to drive trucks and ambulances but her legs weren't long enough to reach the pedals.

El Loro

Good morning everyone, it certainly is breezy here today.  Thank you for the warning EL.  Summer just think of the lives that got derailed by the war, your grandmother not becoming a teacher, let alone being changed by illness or cut short.  Makes you weep, I hate war.

I don't know whether anyone has the movie channels but there is a film of Jane Eyre which I am taping today, it is on all next week.  I am a sucker for Jane Eyre, my favourite ever story I think, it's a toss up between that and Pride & Prejudice.

Yogi hope you manage to get it all done and back in the warm quick sharp

Spurred on by the events in the velodrome obviously

Me too Summer, I adored the book, and there was a very good TV version a couple of years ago, they have to get the principal characters right otherwise it makes you cross.  Will be interesting to watch the film.  It will be ages before I watch it though I add it to the bottom of my film list and usually watch some on the weekends.  I'm a bit organised aren't I?

Morning
The sun is out at the moment but its a chilly wind.
Lovely to hear your grandson is doing well squiggle
Good luck with making the  wreaths Summer. I watched Kirsty Allsop make them last year on a programme she had. She makes it look so easy, bet its not!!

re The Bletchley Circle. i was annoyed too El, they gave far too much away on next weeks episode.  ITV are famous for doing this, and will no doubt do it with Downton too
Hope you are home quickly Yogi and get a nice hot cuppa

I've seen quite a few versions of Jane Eyre, film and television ones. I think the one I liked most was the 2006 television series. That one had Ruth Wilson as Jane and Toby Stephens as Rochester.

My current favourite of all of the costume dramas I've seen is the Ang Lee version of Sense and Sensibility. That's the one which was adapted by Emma Thompson who also appeared in the film. For me, the ending scene is the most gloriously happy ending to any film I've seen. I was recording it on my old DVD recorder but it was lost when the recorder broke down, but it will be shown again.

El Loro

I'm back, windswept and cold! I'm having a nice hot cuppa, so should be warm again soon, Skylark.

Haha Summer, the very thought of me at the cycling centre!

Squiggle, I was too late to watch Jayne Eyre this morning but it's back on tonight, so I've set the V+ to record. Glad it's all going well for your grandson, it makes such a difference when you enjoy your work.
