I hope they managed to capture the wallaby/kangaroo and take it somewhere safe. It's strange that no animal centre/zoo has reported one missing.

Great pics, Summer. I shall expect Bramble to start posting with us sometime soon.

Just what I was thinking It looked like she was thinking up her first post!

Another lovely morning, I am making the most of it as it's not expected to last much longer.

I think if we knew the scale of escaped (and released into the wild) exotic animals loose in these islands now we would be simply amazed.

Have a good day everyone, and I hope the sun shines for you all.

Good afternoon it started off overcast here, then drizzle and now rain! My feet are cold. I just ate a delicious hot beef & gravy sandwich Hehe I wonder what Bramble would write if she could! She curled up on MIL's slippers and went to sleep on them last night, for ages! (MIL keeps some at ours) El thank you for that link, I can't currently see it I promise to look tonight from my iPad I hope the kangaroo creature is found safely and rehomed, or at least doesn't get injured out there in the wild! I can't imagine how I would react if I saw a kangaroo hopping down the road Is everyone enjoying the day? I'm looking forward to the Olympic opening ceremony tomorrow

Update on the local wallaby story today:

A wandering wallaby escaped from a college campus on the night of the student ball.

Sightings of the marsupial near the A40 at Highnam were reported to police, but The Citizen can reveal it was set free from Hartpury College.

Hopping mad officials at the college confirmed they reported one missing nearly two months ago after, on the night of the student ball, someone set the three animals loose.

Hartpury vice-principal Luke Rake, said: "We were in the processof developing our animals collection including acquiring the three wallabies when they were set loose. We think it was student hi jinks which led to them being deliberately freed. We managed to round up the two females but not the male."

He said they only acquired the creatures from Marwell Zoo on June 1, and they were set free on June 4 for their animal care courses.

The Citizen went out to Highnam Woods yesterday to see if we could track the animal. Wildlife enthusiast Frank Tunbridge joined me and said wallabies are "born survivors".

"They only come out at twilight and survive on the trees and plants around them," he said. "Interestingly, one member of the species is able to locate another from a great distance in order to meet up and mate."

However, members of the public are asked not venture out to help capture the wallaby.

Mr Rake, who said it made sense that the animal had got as far as Highnam, added: "We ask members of the public not to approach him. He is harmless but when approached will simply run away."

The college reported the great escape to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and RSPCA. Diane Roberts, of Defra, said: "Hartpury called and asked if we had any darting experts to assist. Unfortunately we had no-one with the expertise."

The story of the roaming wallaby has caught the imagination of many media outlets, including those in its native land of Australia. Melbourne-based newspaper Herald Sun reported: "Sightings of a wallaby or kangaroo in an English county have police and locals baffled."

I have to say that I think it disgraceful that students would release a wild animal like that, even if they think they shouldn't be kept where they are, they should have thought about what life would be like for the creature if set wild. Also, they could have campaigned to have e animals rehomed.. What they did was irresponsible!

Good morning everyone. The sun is shining atm, although there is a possibility of showers later on.

I hope the poor wallaby comes to no harm, and can be rescued soon.

Hubby is off today so we might go out and about - or cut the hedges and shrubs in the back garden, such an exciting life I lead.

Hope the weather is nice where you are, have a good day everyone.

Good morning everyone

I hope you have a nice day, Yogi

Here, it's a bit cooler, but it's expected to be dry today. Then it's back to cool and rain/showers from tomorrow.

Summer, the Happiness Zone is another Hoop.la site. You would need to register as you did here to be able to post. Procedure is the same.

Hartpury College is known as a leading educational establishment for anyone who wants to become a vet, work in a zoo or animal husbandry (livestock farmer). The animals they have there are therefore for educational purposes - it is not a zoo or a safai park as such. I would imagine that the animals are very well looked after. Hartpury College is in the countryside and I should think that the animals have a fair amount of open space. So the students who let the wallabies out wouldn't have had a legitimate reason for their actions.

Good morning everyone, off to the hairdressers later.

It was so muggy last night, I do hope it's a little cooler today, I don't even care if we get the odd shower I feel ill in the heat

Summer that site that EL found looks so good, I tried logging in (as it is part of the same umbrella as here) but I had to join, which I did, looks my sort of place.

Those students were very irresponsible and I am sure the wallaby is missing his friends.

Social Strata is a social media business and has set up a huge number of sites for many businesses, interest groups over the years either through the older Eve sites or the newer Hoop.la sites. They did the old Channel 4 forum for instance though took no part in the moderation side of things. I don't know how many sites they handle but it is likely to run into tens of thousands of sites if not more. You couldn't have a set up where having registered here you could automatically post on any of the other sites - that would be impossible.

If I remember I might listen to More or Less next Friday on Radio 4 at 4.30 pm. It's a programme about numbers and statistics but next week's programme sounds as if it could be more interesting than normal. He looks as which fictional place in this country has the highest murder rate. The obvious answer would be Midsomer I would have thought, but maybe it will be somewhere else.

On the Radio 4 news programme just now they mentioned a radio programme this evening - Any Questions.

Eddie Mair chairs a live discussion of news and politics from West Kilbride Village Hall in Scotland, with panellists Michael Moore, Secretary of State for Scotland and Liberal Democrat MP; Anas Sarwar, deputy leader of the Scottish Labour Party; writer and broadcaster, Lesley Riddoch, SNP MSP Linda Fabiani and Usain Bolt. (I think he might be joking about 1 of those). The programme lasts for 48 minutes so that leaves Usain Bolt 12 minutes to get to the Olympics opening ceremony. So he has to sprint 440 miles in 12 minutes. That will take some doing

Love the pic and the sentiment, Squiggle.

I think it would be great if the Queen were to light the beacon.

Skylark, I hope your granddaughter gets some lovely weather on her holiday, and has a great time.

Remind your son that the airlines slap on charges, if he exceeds his luggage weight allowance.

Summer, here are the cakes I promised you (I thought you'd like some Twilight ones). Tuck in everyone, they are calorie-free!

Yes Yogi, been trying to tell him he has to keep the weight down. he is getting very excited now! Granddaughter and co arrived safely, weather good, at the moment

I hope the good weather holds for them.

Have you got a set of luggage scales, you can pick them up for ÂĢ5-10 pounds, and they tend to be pretty accurate.

If all else fails, put the case on your bathroom scales - that's what we used to do.

Youngest son always buys some new clothes the day before he goes on holiday - and expects them to be washed, dried, ironed and packed by the laundry fairy. Of course, like the mug mum I am, I always do them for him.
