we're back! We did it, we saw the queen!!!!! I'm just waiting for SIL to send me the video and then I'll make a thread We got lucky, the weather was superb and we had a good spot in Durham city in a narrow street. She was going for lunch at the castle and although she wasn't making an appearance out of the car, she did a slow drive through the streets. We could have touched her car we were that close! She saw bramble too!!!!!! I was so excited my heart was pounding and my legs were shaking after lol We then went for lunch, we ate outside while bramble fell asleep at my feet bless her. A really fantastic day out I have to go clean out the bunnies now, back in a bit Hope the rain dries up for all of you x

Squiggle, thanks for trying it out. I have tried again and this time did get through as you did. As you say it took much longer than normal.

I'm not about to start following anyone either. Getting an email everytime that person made a posting on the forum could be a bit much

In any case if you click on a member's ID under their avatar by a posting you get to see their profile page. There you can see a list of their most recent posts. It just shows the name of the topic but if you click on that you get to their posting.

I'm back from my course. It was more interesting than I had expected. A course on management and financial advice for small and medium sized enterprises could have been very dry. The lecturer was good and was highly experienced. The course was structured around how to survive in this recession. It's more likely to be of relevance to larger clients than I have, but it could be of use one day.

Ted has confirmed to me that the problems I reported were probably down to the activity streaming widget (yes, it's another widget ) slowing things down on the home page. They are looking into it.

Just had a client turn up with his papers for his tax return unannounced. He was lucky to catch me as I am going out shortly to see a client.

He told me that he has sold his entire share portfolio in March. This means I will have a huge job ahead to work out his capital gains. Each holding has to be disclosed separately on the tax return - I can't just lump them together. There may be little actual capital gains tax to pay as most of the holdings were bequeathed to him a couple of years ago. However when the total proceeeds exceeds ÂĢ42,400 (in 2011/12 tax year) we have to do this even if the overall gain was nothing.

I have warned him that my fee will increase sharply as a result of this.

Good morning everyone, a lovely bright morning I am pleased to say.

I wonder what the reason was for your client selling all his shares EL, just his particular circumstances do you think or does he see bleak times ahead in the shares markets?

Visitors this afternoon so will pop back after they have gone.

Have a good day and I hope you all see some sunshine.

I will make sure my fee covers the time involced in sorting out that client's capital gains tax. Last year was the first time I did my client's tax return and I spent time then working out the "base cost" of his shares so that I had the info ready for future use. But there were several bits of missing info so that could cause problems. Base cost is the term used for what we can regard as the cost for capital gains tax. Where someone has received shares under a legacy, the base cost is the probate value of those shares, not what the shares originally cost when the legator bought them.

He's sold the shares because he was fed up with them and is using the money to buy another property to let.

Squiggle, I hope you have a nice time with your visitors.

I expect my brother to arrive in just over half an hour so I won't be around much over the next 2 days. I think he will avoid the showers as they are now expected a couple of hours after he gets here.

Weatherwise, it should be good here for a few days, not that I expect to go out much while my brother is here. I hope you all have a good weekend

The weather seems to have made a turn for the better and I am so pleased that it is just in time for your weekend with your brother EL, hope it all goes well.  For my visitors today I bought a lemon drizzle cake from M & S and can really recommend it, it was gorgeous.  (They had a special offer of 2 for ÂĢ4 too but I only bought one).

The sweet one, try to avoid the salty one for my BP.

Enjoy your programme. I am still sticking with BB, goodness knows why, it riles me! xx

Mr Yogi, eldest and middle sons have gone for a few drinks. I just know they are going to phone me in the middle of Superstar and say, "Is there any chance you could pick us up?".

I am gutted that it is Luke A and Lauren who are up for eviction, especially as Conor, Caroline, Becky and Trashley and Luke S are still in there.
