Morning  all

Wet and cold here  Seagulls driving me nuts this morning, dont know whats on the go, but they are very vocal today!

Enjoyed Lewis too, sometimes i find some can be a bit slow but enjoyed that one. Love Celia Imrie, the scene with Lewis and her had me in tears. Wont say more incase some havent seen it yet. For those that have, will know what i mean.

Well done on the car passing the MOT Summer

There's been 2 brief power cuts locally in the last hour or so. Irritating as it switches my computer off and I have to reboot. So if I suddenly disappear here, that's why.

The weather is agitating me too El!

We had a spate of brief power cuts a few weeks ago, its annoying isnt it, especially when you are using the computer, hope it settles El.

Hi Summer. How is Bramble in the rain? My dog hates it!

FM

It has taken me ages to get into this thread.

Hope you don't get any more power cuts, El. I get very upset when I have no access to the internet.

Summer, I bet your MiL enjoys Bramble's company.

Chatsworth is showing on BBC1 on Mondays at 9pm.

Hi Skylark. Keira also hates the rain. Like her owner, she is a fair-weather walker.

How did you get on the other day, when you went clothes shopping for your granddaughter? I only ask because the last time you went shopping for shoes, you came back with something like a shower curtain!

The power problems seem to have been resolved now. I found this on the local news:

MORE than 800 homes and businesseslost power after a cable fault in Gloucester this afternoon.

Western Power Distribution has confirmed it is investigating a fault which left parts of the city without power for up to 50 minutes.

A spokesman said: "We had a fault which was affecting around 870 properties in the Gloucester area.

"It went off at around 11.50am, but we managed to restore some properties at 12.10pm, and the rest were switched back on by 12.40pm.

"There is an underground cable fault which is being investigated and repaired, and this may have caused some intermittent power cuts."

Certain parts of Gloucester City Council's HQ at the Docks were hit, but a spokesman said it caused minimal disruption.

She said: "Reception was open as normal, telephone lines were running on a reduced connection so we didn't take any card payments.

"It lasted for 45 minutes but most people were on their lunch break at the time."

So it looks from the times I've made bold that although I wasn't without power throughout that time, each of the 3 events were sufficient to switch my computer off. I left my computer off for a couple of hours in case there were any more disruptions.

Glad its sorted now El

Hi Yogi, yes i know whatever did we do without the internet! When mine is off, for whatever reason i am like a lost soul!
I got granddaughter a few summer tops and dresses, and a few pair of leggings and funny you saying that about coming back with a shower curtain this time it was a frying pan   My old one had lost its non-stick coating and frying an egg was not fun!

Raining heavily here, when will it end  Son has taken Kia for a walk, they wont be long, she will pull him back home

Ever since Jaws came out in 1975 it has had a PG certificate (which replaced what used to be the A certificate). People wondered at the time as its rating and put it down to Stephen Spielberg's films being given more leeway than other directors. But after all this time it is being given another release in cinemas and this time it has a 12A certificate. Of course in 1975 there was no 12 certificate, but there has been since 1994 for videos and until now those have been PG.

I remember going to the cinema to see Jaws. I think it took me 2 days to settle down and i was 20 ! I imagine these days some 12 year olds will take it their stride, what with their PC/Xbox games etc. Watching it on TV now it seems rather tame, but its different going to the cinema and seeing it on a huge screen!
Personally if i had a 12 year old i wouldnt let them go to the cinema to see it .
I dont know enough about Spielberg to comment on whether or not he was, and is given more leeway x

FM

The other Steven Spileberg film I've always been amazed got a PG certificate was Raiders of the Lost Ark. The climatic scene near the end where the baddies get their come uppance - there's no way in which that should be a PG in my opinion - it's closer to a 15.

Even Spielberg expressed concern over some of his films in the States as the ratings until 1984 there were G (our U), PG and R (which in the States means if you are under 17 an adult has to be with you). He encouraged them to create a new PG-13 rating to accomodate his films. He was that powerful.

My DiL and I were discussing a programme I saw recently about shark attacks in Australia during 2008/9 and we got on to the subject of the film Jaws. Although we both agreed that fake shark wasn't very good, it still scared the wits out of us when we first saw the film.

Interested in what you said about the power of Spielberg, El.

I saw it in the cinema and I swear the whole cinema gasped when the bloke was diving down to the wreck and the head appeared.

But not as bad as The Birds, I went to see it with my brother and my husband to be (before we were courting) my brother came out and he was green and I sat up all night.

That was the scariest bit (imo), I nearly landed on the lap of a guy who was sitting two rows behind me.

As for The Birds, i watched it on TV, riveting, edge of the seat stuff!

Goodnight Skylark.

*night owls*

I had tea at a friends house, it was yummy.

Ooh horror films, don't like them! I can watch them but get no pleasure from them and end up with bad dreams

Skylark, bramble won't step out the door in to the rain, but once she's out in it she's alright. We have to be ready to grab her with a towel coming back in though, she moves fast
I may have bought her a memory foam bed

And on that note.. Sweet dreams lovely people
~Sparkling Summer~

Good morning everyone

Another dry day here though may be showers later.

Ros, I hope your back continues to get better

Skylark, I hope your son enjoys the match tomorrow. Cheltenham beat Torquay 2-1 last night in their away match so win overall 4-1. They therefore will play Crewe in the final at Wembley on the 27th for the remaining promotion place. Crewe are likely to start off as favourites as they have had a run of 8 winning games.

The Birds is a scary film but unlike Jaws it was originally released as a X certificate and now has a 15 certificate.

Skylark, I wish you well for your Healthy Eating Plan, and Yogi, I hope you have a great holiday

El Loro

Good morning everyone, Yogi have a great time, are you going far?  And are you able to log in because we will miss you otherwise

Ros I hope your back continues to improve.  Skylark I hope your son really enjoys the day   And EL I hope Cheltenham overturn the odds

Summer what a picture of absolute blissful contentment! Quick contact the manufacturers of the memory foam dog bed, sell them the picture and they will sell thousands of the beds

squiggle

Good morning everyone.

Squiggle, I'm not going far, only over the border to Berwick-upon-Tweed. I don't know about internet access, but rest assured if I can find a way, I will get here.

Summer, it's only a short break from Monday to Friday. Middle son and his fiancÃĐe are going with us and I am really looking forward to it. I've checked the weather forecast for next week and the only wet day is Friday, so fingers crossed the forecasters have got it right.

The carnation/pinks/dianthus plants I ordered have arrived, so I have some potting up to do today. Luckily, I can do it in the greenhouse as the weather is wet and dreary atm.

Summer, I love the pic of Bramble in her bed, she looks so relaxed and peaceful.

Well done to Cheltenham, El.

I wonder if Skylark's son will be too excited to sleep tonight? I remember my late brother was always too excited and nervous to eat on Cup Final/ League decider days. Men and their football.

Glad your back is a bit better, Ros.

A bit of cricket news. Stuart Broad the English bowler playing in the current Test Match against West Indies may make a bit of cricket history in the next day or so. A hat trick is where a bowler takes 3 wickets in 3 successive deliveries in the same match. Yesterday evening he got a wicket in his last ball of his last over of the day. This morning in his first delivery of the day he took the last West Indian wicket. England have now started their first innings.

When the West Indies have their second innings say tomorrow and Stuart Broad takes a wicket on his first delivery of the day he would have got a hat trick spread over 3 days - that could quite possibly be unique - the radio commentators can't remember this happening before.
