Good morning everyone

Thanks for the Hot Cross Buns, Summer - I've just eaten one of the M&S ones and will have more later today as will my brother. In the eveing we watched Babe which neither of us had ever seen and it's a delightful film.

Today is of course Good Friday. Some people ask why did Jesus have to die on the cross. In those days it was a required ritual for Jews to go to the temple to make sacrifices of domestic animals or birds. There were three reasons for this, One was to give something that you had (that's why they would have to pay to get an animal or bird to sacrifice). Two was to substitute the offering in place of the giver. Three was to come closer to God, hence the need for this to be done at the temple.

Jesus was a thorn in the priests' sides and they had been looking for any excuse to do away with him. A few days before he was arrested he had barged into the temple throwing the animals and people out saying that the priests had made the temple nothing other than a place for money changers and thieves. He said that in answer to the priests that "destroy this temple and I will rebuild it in 3 days". The priests assumed that he was referring to tha actual building but he was referring to himself, his death, and his resurrection.

But this gave the priests the perfect opportunity to arrange for him to be arrested, to be tried and tortured and to be crucified. Crucifixion was the standard form of execution in the Roman empire at that time - remember the film Spartacus as another example.

By Jesus letting himself be put to death, he totally changed the whole concept of the Jewish sacrifice by giving himself to be sacrificed instead, and in so doing enable everybody who follows him to come closer to God.

As you know my aunt is a nun. When nuns and monks pray, they are not just praying for their sins to be forgiven, they also pray for the sins committed around the world to be forgiven. They do this as Jesus died for us so that through him our sins can be forgiven - his was the ultimate sacrifice.

A video clip of one of the best know Taize hymns - very simple but very effective.

Good morning everyone, a much brighter morning this morning   A great clip EL and a very interesting and informative post.  Enjoy your hot cross buns.  I was not raised in a Christian household, my mum and dad weren't churchgoers but we always had hot cross buns on Good Friday to remember our Lord's sacrifice on the cross and we never ate our Easter Eggs before Easter Sunday morning to remember He rose again.  It's interesting to me looking back that was just taken as a matter of course even though we never went to church.

Looking forward to my hot cross buns later on, and you would laugh because you know I wasn't going to have an egg, well I found a kiddie's egg which is really tiny, a Cadburys Buttons egg, so just the right size to follow tradition and have a little taste of chocolate but nothing to push me off course.

Enjoy your day everyone, however you spend it but if you can spare a thought for what was done for each of us on this day that would be wonderful and then you look forward to Sunday even more.  I said a wee prayer for each and every one of you this morning, that He will bless you.

Hi all x

Having a sit down at last, think everything is ready for tomorrow, except i dont know what to wear, will it be wellies and thick coat or cropped trousers, summer top and flip flops ???

Son treated us to fish and chips, was lovely. Daughter off to the church, not taking the wee one as its a more solemn service tonight, she said she will say prayers for you all and thanks for your kindness

Is your daughter feeling better now?

Brownie points to your son for the fish and chips.

Youngest son is back on his healthy eating, so no fish and chips for us tonight.

Great! And perhaps also Luke 24: 1-12 because of course He is alive today.

Good morning El, thank you I hope you're having a great time with your brother Skylark, have a great party Sorry I didn't get back yesterday, we had a rather unusual & eventful day; We were looking at the map for a walk we wanted to do on Sunday. Then we decided do go out and do a different walk there & then- we got ready and went. There was still some snow around so we built the Easter bunny and enjoyed our walk.. We got home, mr summer uploaded some pics from the walk on Facebook, and straight away a photo from an old colleague of his popped up- of some border terriers puppies! They're 8 weeks old and ready to go, we talked, and he's on his way there RIGHT NOW to go look at them! there's only 1 bitch, so it's take her or leave her, literally. Best part is, they have the same look as stream Will keep you posted!

Hi all x
So happy for you Summer xx

Thanks all, party went well. Was dragged back to nana,s but left when the booze came out. Not being grand or whatever the word is, but under the circumstances didnt think it was appropriate, especially when it was obvious that she was 3 sheets to the wind at the party. But hey ho!!

Anyway Granddaughter sleeping, she is shattered. She has been rather spoilt this year, but normality will resume tomorrow
