I wonder who I could invite to make my youngest clear up his room?

Just been told he needs a lie in tomorrow  because he is off to watch the Hibs Hearts Derby on Sunday , and may make a day of it. Oh well...

Summer, I hope you are feeling better today

Yogi, thanks for that info about cherry blossom and irs significance to the Japanese

Skylark, good luck with your house cleaning efforts and I hope that tomorrow's visit from nana goes well.

Here there has been some early rain and more is expected this afternoon. At present it's dry and there are bits of blue sky in the cloud.

Good morning everyone, it's a much brighter morning here   Interesting about the flowering cherry trees.  Which reminds me I wonder whether anyone else has been to see the wonderful Japanese garden at Compton Acres near Poole in Dorset?  It is simply stunning.  Here is a photo I took some years ago.  Hope the packing goes well Yogi and that the visit from Nana goes well Skylark, I am impressed by your son cleaning his room

Good afternoon everyone. It's a lovely, bright day up here.

Summer, I too have a list. Packing is going well and I'm cleaning through before we leave. Mr Yogi asked me why I feel the need to spring clean the house before we leave. He exaggerates, I just like to leave things clean and tidy for son - who better do likewise for my return (some hope!).

Are you feeling any better today, Summer?

Squiggle, the Japanese gardens in your pic look lovely. It's a bit far for a day trip for me, but I'd love to go there.

I hope the rain stayed away and the blue sky remained, El.

Thank you skylark I might take some balloons with me and see if my brother wants to help me surprise decorate the living room for my mum's birthday. She's a heavy sleeper so won't hear us I hope you have a good day with nana tomorrow I got my brother a mars egg, and a dairy milk one for my mum. I hope the Easter bunny brings me a mini eggs egg. El, I'm glad you & your brother exchange eggs I've been encouraging my adult clients to get Easter eggs this year, they're not just for kids! Squiggle oh I didn't know you are diabetic, well done you for cutting out the chocolate altogether I used to get the thorntons diabetic egg for a friend of mine every year (we're no longer friends) and she said it was very good. Since giving up sugar for lent, I've learned it's very very difficult to go shopping, most things are loaded with the stuff even the products with out refined sugar are high in natural sugars. Thank goodness you know how to cook! Yogi I hope the packing is going well, are you ready?! I've got so much to take that I think the neighbours will think I'm moving out lol

Flying visit - packing is finished but I still have to colour my hair. Thank you all for your good wishes, I'm sure we'll have a nice time.

Summer, hope you have a lovely time with your mum and brother.

Have a good day with nana tomorrow, Skylark.

All this talk of easter eggs is putting me in the mood for a Cadbury's Creme Egg - and I'm a reformed chocaholic.

If the hotel wifi and Mr Yogi's ipad play ball, I shall pop in to see you at some point.

Squiggle, Skylark, El, Summer, Ros and Joyron, love to you all.

Good morning everyone

Yogi, I hope you have a great holiday.

I hope all of you who are either mothers or are visiting their mothers have a happy Mother's Day.

In our church and many other churches today is Mothering Sunday. Historically this was the day that people returned to their mother church today. In that context, mother church was the church that they were baptised in. Later, this became the day when children and young people who were servants or apprentices could either visit their parents or their mother church. On the way their they would pick flowers to give to their mothers or to place them in their church.

At church, besides the flowers given out for Mothering Sunday, there was a baptism of a baby and one year older sibling. Normally when there is a baptism quite a few of the regulars don't turn up and the number of people taking communion falls. Not today, a lot of the baptismal visitors took communion and numbers were about 50% higher than the average for a baptism service.

There are some of the regulars at our church service who get upset by babies or youngsters making a noise during the service. The weekly service sheets on a Sunday include a list of services for the Sunday and the following week including the next Sunday. The sheet also gives the readings for that following Sunday to aid those who are going to do the readings. For most Sundays we have a reading from the Old Testament, a reading from the New Testament (from Acts onwards) and a Gospel reading. When it's a baptism besides the Gospel reading there is only either a reading from the Old Testament or the New Testament. That indicates to those in the know that the following Sunday will be a baptism so those who get upset by the noise don't go to that service but one of the others.

I don't agree with them as I consider that as we are welcoming the newly baptised in our church family that the baptism should be part of the main service rather than as a separate service just for those going to the baptism.

A nice idea of your preacher getting the children to draw pictures of their mothers

greetings from rural Suffolk I arrived safely although delayed a little due to diversions, the A1 was closed in the midlands. Is the mother church thing where mothers day originally comes from el? Right now I'm but 5 miles from the church I was baptised in as a baby! I'm not particularly fond of noisy children but it's part of life, and part of family, I most certainly wouldn't avoid going to church if I knew more children were attending. That's not nice I hope you're all having a good day

Summer, yes to your query on Mother church. Mother church does have other meanings though just to confuse things

I found this photo of the sheep at Bathgate - I know it's a day late but

When it was St Andrew's day they were like this:

In order to highlight the Erskine charity for Scottish veterans, farmer Andrew Jack who has been doing these did this:

These can been seen off the M8 between junctions 3A and 4 in Scotland.

And then just for fun, the farmer came up with this:

He may have used other colours besides these. I wonder what the sheep make of this.
